Again, Slot didn’t say Gomez asked to be brought off, but even that happens from time to time. It doesn’t mean those players are quitters.
Precaution for a potential injury, while our season is still in the balance, as well as his future this summer (even if that’s possibly not what he had in mind at that point).
Really don’t see anything weird in players giving info back to the bench how they feel, if something happened, etc. What does it have to be a narrative or something suspicious? He just explained the sub, that’s it.
Why? Do you not think he understands what it feels like at this point when something is about to pop? Bravery that costs us a goal because he cannot go with a runner or forces us into a bad sub because he refused to acknowledge reality doesnt help anyone
There are different scenarios, like I said I understood Didi Hamann not telling Rafa about his toe issue before penalties in Istanbul, but that’s not the same situation like this one.
The player communicated his feelings to the coach, seeing that there was movement and subs were being prepared. Why would we risk it in this case? It’s not good for the player or the team, for what’s still ahead.
I’d say it’s totally fine, Gomez has probably very good knowledge of his body by his own experience with all the shit he went through in his career.
It becomes irrelevant if he was on the pitch from the start or came on 2 minutes before (or how well he played). The fact that he came on off the bench at RB and we needed to chase the game possibly even added more risk to it.
Nobody said that Gomez said “take me off boss”, though it’s a possibility. That wasn’t even the main point of discussion. He doesn’t have to say it for the coaching staff to judge it’s better to take him off, with the information he’s given them.
I assume this injury is connected to what Joe felt in the game, so it turned out even worse. He not only felt he could get injured if he made a few more sprints, he actually picked up something that ruled him out for tomorrow.
So we know even more why the sub happened and unfortunately it ended up even worse.
