Post match: Liverpool v Qarabag (UCL 28/1/26 8pm)

I’m not partícularly bothered.

Most teams were pulling back from being 2-0 at that point of the season. I don’t think any of them can rest their first 11.

Looking at the picture, Both sides of the table seems daunting for Slot…It gets only slightly easier for Slot if we end up at the unseeded side.

If we are on the seeded side, Slot need to pray very hard that Gala wins Juventus. Meeting Juventus at RO16 will be bad…There is a high chance of being knocked out…

Its 2026 now, not 2006

It has been a strange season. If we play some of our worst stuff, most of the remaining teams can beat us. And we’ve played a lot of bad stuff to be fair. But most of our good stuff has been in the CL, and if we play to that sort of level, we can beat most teams. Were it not for injuries I’d be quite bullish about going very far in the CL, and even with injuries, you never know. It’s a competition we love.

As for facing Juventus, I don’t fear them on the pitch. If we do our job we will have too much for them, so it’s up to us.

What makes me more nervous is the potential for trouble for the traveling fans. The financial disparity between top Prem teams and top Italian teams grates a footballing culture that used to be top dog. More specifically Juventus have a core of ultras who will want to go after Liverpool fans for Heysel. There is a lot of potential for trouble. I don’t know what the policing arrangements will be, but my sense is the Italian authorities are more lax than they should be, as their boys are not in danger. Keep your wits about you and travel in a group.

Dude, Series A is the farmer’s league of this decade (Inter’s final runs sound great until we actually zoomed in their draws - the moment they ran into an actual elite side they got cooked), and Juventus is not even top 3 these days. If we loses to Juventus then Slot should be sacked ASAP.

Atletico Madrid is by far the toughest one among those 4.

I’m not sure about that. Have you forgotten Galatasaray and PSV?

Ok our best performance of the season was probably against Real Madrid.

So if ‘most’ of our good stuff has been in the CL that really is a very small sample to go by.

Yep, it is a small sample. We have not got a very long list of good games this season, but there have been some.

We have had a few good Prem games but lots of iffy results there, whereas proportionately we’ve seen better in the CL, though as you point out there have been a couple of stinkers there too.

Maybe what I’m seeing is we have a bit of a tendency to raise ourselves for bigger games, but have not been taking care of business in more of the stuff that might be considered routine?
