Yes in top of the Trent one.
We have 24hrs more rest than the Cheaters for the weekend… put all our players in the ice bath now :0) - Can’t wait for the game
Such an important line. Works perfectly on days like today and days like what we had a week back. Good to see the players not getting affected by both the highs and the lows over the course of the season. ![]()
The defense looked great tonight. Second straight clean sheet will do our confidence a wealth of good. Onwards and upwards ![]()

Former Real Madrid defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield
The shape of the Liverpool’s team and how they took to the manager’s gameplan is what won Liverpool the game.
There was a massive difference between Liverpool getting their players behind the ball and Madrid’s players getting behind the ball.
That was our best performance of the season. We should have won more comfortably but their keeper was fantastic. Andy and Connor were excellent everyone played well for us and all deserved credit, I think even Chiesa got one touch when he came on. lol
.
Just on this, there is a gap between the front 4 defending and the back 4 out wide. Bellingham found it once.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to Amazon Prime: “Very pleased. It’s been [some] tricky weeks for us, many away games, hardly any rest in between every single game. Again we only had two games in between this game but the same was there for Real Madrid. It helps if you can play in front of these fans and you can play in front of Real Madrid because I think that brings the best out of my players and out of our fans. A great performance against a team that only lost once all season. It could have been a bit more maybe.”
On getting a second consecutive clean sheet: "I said before the game that they have scored 26 goals in La Liga, and Mbappe and Vinicius together have 24 goal contributions. So, if you want to win this game you have to make sure that these two are not on the scoresheet. The whole team defended really well, in the high press and the low block. Conor [Bradley] was outstanding. To be up against Vinicius so many times one v one is not for everyone. He did outstanding today.
“I said to the players that the only thing I did not want was a mid block, because those two up front [Vinicius and Mbappe] have deep runs, unbelievable timing and incredible pace, so we either press them really high or sit in a low block. So never give them space, and in the few moments you do, take it away because 24 goal contributions from 26 goals tells you everything you need to know about these two.”
I think those losses in October were a blessing in disguise it allowed us to see that we had a few issues to iron out. I don’t mean we are out of the woods yet but today was last years Liverpool and let’s give the new players a chance to bed in.
Should really have come away with a 3-0 win but for some wild saves.
Glad Slot has reverted back to some familiar faces from last season. Take the heat off the new signings and slowly give them minutes and starts here and there.
We looked really solid with some players looking like they’re finding some form. Big test on Sunday but it’s great to see we can actually boss games still.
Duncan Alexander - since the start of the 2022 final, 23% of the saves Thibaut Courtois has made in the Champions League been against Liverpool.
44 matches, 5 of them against us. Can we just not ever play against him again.

Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live
It felt like Liverpool dictated all the time what happened.
They were better than Madrid. Liverpool counter-attack with danger. So Liverpool were dangerous.
Every 50-50 was won by a Liverpool player. When they had to defend deep at the end and keep the result, they did that very well. Pace, stronger, quicker and more intelligent [from Liverpool].
Seven games in the Champions League played between English sides and Spanish sides – it is 6-1 to England and 14 goals against 4.
The game played by the English side has a different pace, physicality is stronger, they’re intelligent, they have talent, they know what to do in every part of the pitch.

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I think the scoreline reflects the game. They slightly edged it in the second half they brought a bit more.
"Second half, their momentum took over and they edged it.
“After they scored, it felt like we wanted to force things a little too much. Things to learn, still really early in the season and still early in the Champions League campaign. We were a lot worse off last season and still managed to get through.”
On Trent Alexander-Arnold: "Obviously, it is one of those things in football. The fans booing isn’t a reflection of how they feel about him.
“I think it is more to give their team the edge and throw him off a little bit. I am sure they’re appreciative of what he has done for the club. It is one of those things.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to Amazon Prime about the mentality of the group and wanting the clean sheet: "If you want my honest answer then the difference is the playing style of the teams we have faced. You cannot compare a game of football when one team wants to bring the ball out of the back and the other teams are in a low block and are in a way more direct. I think you saw a similar style from us that you saw last season but we have to make sure that when we play against any style we can win the game.
“Again today shows the importance of set pieces. We have scored four in the Champions League. If we had scored as many in the Premier League we would have more points than we have now, but we have scored none and conceded five. If that is your balance you are not going to pick up many points.”
On dealing with such a poor run: “It is nicer if you win games than if you lose as a manager. If you lose then it takes all of your time because you so badly want to change it but you also try to be the same manager and person that you are when you are winning. I did the same, told them that with our set piece balance it is really hard to win games of football, open play chance creation was good all season apart from the Villa game, which we won. So I tried to tell them what was actually happening instead of all the noise around them. The only thing I can do is tell them my opinion and hope it is strong enough for them to believe me.”
“Sunday is another game coming up against a very strong team. We have lost too many points in the Premier League but in the Champions League we are doing well. We need to do better and that is what we are going to try and there’s a lot of games coming up for us to show that.”
So, I have been critical of Conor Bradley in the past and I wanted to eat humble pie, but apparently it’s impossible to get hold of in Australia. I’ve just got blank stares from everyone I’ve asked. Humility seems to be unknown in this part of the world.
Anyway Con, I know you’re reading, I apologise for ever doubting you. You were fucking immense!
Edit
Fair play. I’m just delighted he’s opening everyone’s eyes. Wasn’t even his best performance of the season. NI v Slovakia was like watching Gerrard in his prime
So, seems like RM are having a fire sale. I wouldn’t buy any of their cheating, snide cunts. Nor any of their muppets either.
