Post match: Liverpool v Southampton (ELC 23/9/25 8pm)

Apart from Chiesa who was brilliant and a few other individual performances, that was a bad match from us, compounded by Leoni’s seemingly severe injury and Ekitike’s stupidity.

If Leoni’s out for a prolonged period of time, we’re in trouble. 3 CBs is going to be difficult to handle with the number of fixtures until January. As far as Ekitike goes, he is a great talent, but it’s clear that he has a lot of growing up to do.

It’d have been better to lose the game, instead of losing Leoni. He looked very good too…

I expect Chiesa will get minutes now. Anyhow it’s not Leoni’s shoulder.

Which the journo didn’t ask :joy:

That Leoni injury has ruined the result here for me. Would be incredibly gutting if he’s picked up a serious injury. He was so good and showed so much promising signs.

That is exactly right. If we had the numbers, I’d even suggest sitting Hugo for another match just so he learns the lesson. It was an unconscionably stupid decision by him.

Did you forget the 7-2 at Villa or the 1-2 loss to Leeds at home?

I thought it was a good result other than the injury to Leoni. On to the next round. While some question this competitions worth, it is needed for squad players to bring up game time.
.
Now look on the bright side. To us it’s viewed as a hinderence, while for the Bitters it’s their Champions League, and sure as night is day, they are out.

How absolutely unlucky. In his first ever match for us too

Our keeper did not play the worst game.

The first yellow he got was bizarre the poor guy was being fouled and he showed a bit of petulance but football wise he was great and with Alex we have some fire power!

Chiesa did not play much, 2 games must be no problem, he deserves a PL start IMHO.

I tried to, until you had to bring them up!

Yes I was surprised the number of mistakes he made he looked like a rabbit in the headlights, to be fair to him he had Endo to deal with he was a loose canon.

Watching Leoni was like watching Alan Hansen.
Same style, same run, same build/stature.
Except he doesnt look like Captain Scarlett.
Hope he is OK. He looks like good 'un
Also Chiesa was brilliant.
Ekiteki was a prat.
Endo was rubbish.
Robertson was good.
Nyoni was unremarkable as was Curtis Jones
Still not sure about Pingpong.
Gomez was Gomez. Good with lapses.
Sure they will all be better for the run out.
Good result.

Apparently he is also suspended for the Palace game. I hope it does not prove too costly for us but we have Fede as back up he was brilliant tonight.

He is deadly in the box both with assists and scoring.

It was the type of performance you get from a team who haven’t played together much. Not surprising at all.
Gomez and Endo will take some shit but I feel sorry for the pair of them, the odd chance they get to start a game and they are thrown into a team of strangers, nobody stood out tonight apart from the 2 Italians and a mad cameo from Kerkez.
Gutted for Leoni if it’s a bad one, he looked the part from the first minute and looked like he could do a job against better opposition.
Ekiteke was stupid but the ref was a fucking joke, he was getting fouled leading up to the first yellow.
