Goals conceded in that fashion are totally avoidable with a simple bit of communication. Can Virg just hack it away as soon as the ball drops? Of course, but Virg is Virg…he’s not your typical punt it anywhere type defender. His back is to play once he decides he’ll shield and his only awareness then is the distance between the ball and Ali.

But didnt you hear, the ref’s bailed us out by giving two soft penalties.
The game has really gone if people can get wound up about the second penalty being given. Football is no longer a fun sport with rules that are commonly understood by its community. It’s now just a grievance Olympics.

I was thinking what Konate would do and I think he would have booted it out. Saying VVD probably does have the time to boot it out to the side and Konate might shepherd it better.
Anyhow all is well that ends well. Wasn’t the best of games but when you watch it knowing the result it’s a decent display even the first half.

Not sure if you are aware, but Gasband’s record is impeccable when he attends games, he’s at 100% win record.
The problem is that he doesn’t understand that with great power comes great responsibility, and keeps making up excuses, that it’s an intercontinental journey, and he’s not filthy rich or something to do this so often, etc. etc…
It’s my only negative remark in my pros and cons list for FSG too…maybe that’s why we’re switching to adidas though?
Anyway, he’ll be there, right about when Manchester United is thinking of making it unnecessary for him to come.

Can someone poke Merson in the eye and say that VVD and Salah have resiliency as an inherent quality? You see them go uninjured season after season (barring a blatant assault).

I’ve just watched it back in detail. The Saints player comes in from behind Alisson and stands on his foot. He then plays the ball onto Alissons leg and it deflects to Smallbone.
Alisson does not deliberately play the ball as you infer, it is kicked against him. He does not at any point attempt to clear the ball and he does not ‘scuff a kick to him’.

It happens so rarely that it even caught Mo by surprise!
There was a match a couple of years ago where we could have had a 6th sub after the opposition goalkeeper was knocked out, but Klopp chose not to utilise it.
