our press is horrible at the moment.
taking a 1.47 minmute snippet from a game though doesnt assist.
even under Klopps most aggressive and complete teams, there were resting periods.
classic case of bias leading the story.

Try is the word!
I know criticising Dom doesn’t go down well and this is really isn’t one. Dom often leads the press which is ok if others are in position. For that you need communication before, which is lacking, then organising a press from the front isn’t the easiest thing to do.
Often he starts from a confusing position where it’s not really on or he’s starting too deep which just signals to the opposition. There’s a lack of cohesion, communication and ‘training’ it would seem.
Often Dom starts the press when standing next to our striker, that’s one player confused and out of position for it, surely it should be the striker leading the press and perhaps Dom organising it.
It confuses me. As soon as Dom charges forward all it does is ignite an opposition attack as he’s so easy to bypass in those situations. Tactically naive imo.
That isn’t resting. Wirtz and Isak are chasing shadows whilst Gakpo and Dom are dropping back.
That’s how we set up, it isn’t misrepresentative of how we played.
Yeah. It starts off and I’m ready to say its an over reaction to be critical. It is totally normal to start with a low pressure situation until they play into an area where you can start setting traps and then the pressure gets put on. But then the footage rolls and you see that isnt what happens. The two forwards, massively isolated from the rest of the side, start trying to put pressure on the ball from a starting position of at least 15 yards away and only succeed, utterly predictably, in running around (slowly) while giving the defense a very gentle passing drill to run through. It’s just utterly awful. If you’re going to commit that little to it, just drop off until they get into your half and then at least your own side is forced to be compact and better able to close the distance to a player who might then get the ball
Gagging for a ham and cheese wrap. I have no ham. ![]()
do i get points for at least trying though?
yep.100%.
i have no ammunition left. i dont even believe in my own arguement…
i suppose i just hoping theres a moment that didnt actually happen that happens the next time i watch it…like Gakpo getting involved…
its kinda like watching a revenge of the sith for the 20th time, and just hoping this is the time around that Anakin turns around and arrests Palpatine…
Reminds me of Ole at the wheel - United loved the ineffectual press.

The issue for me is the back up to our initial 4 man press it iw so disjointed and I have given my reasons several times.
Hendo used to do the same
I agree, but like in the video above, Wirtz and Isak pressing high but Gakpo is playing 3m from Robbo?
That isn’t how we have pressed when we have played 4 3 3, but still the same the midfield back up is none existant & I have mentioned numerous times why I see Arne’s press fail
I’m no expert, far from it, but it looks to me like a complete lack of preparation by the coaching staff.
A successful press is all about cutting off the passing lanes if I understand it correctly but for that to happen everyone needs to be aware how opposition teams go about playing out from the back.
Against Sunderland any competent youth side could have played their way through us.
As far as I’m concerned a good press starts by deciding where you want to force the opposition to play. So straight runs at players on the ball like we are doing are absolutely useless.
You have to work into position then apply the pressure cutting off passing lanes and ready to pounce on the unlucky bugger who receives the ball. Once you get there you can hound that one player to death. Even better you force an error and pick the ball up.
Sounds easy however I don’t think it is.
The thing is we do it wrong and it’s us who end up out of position and under pressure.
And yes just like attacking moves it’s ‘learnt’ in training.
A 5.30 kick off at a cold and rainy Elland Road. Is anyone actually looking forward to this game?
Apologies wrong thread.
In trepidation…cushions required me thinks…
The sound will definitely be off here.
Yep..its got to be boring Norman…better known as Mono the Manc…
