Post match: Liverpool v Sunderland (EPL 3/12/25 8.15pm)

Sucking up to Sunderland fans. They worked hard and defended well, but they weren’t fantastic.

Yeah I thought they were a bit wasteful with their chances. A better side would have put us away.

Just too slow and predictable. Taking twenty passes to get in their half.

We play controlled football when we don’t need it and play gung ho when we need control.

Summed up in injury time when there was absolutely no one offering for a Kerkez throw or when we needed to build up from the back from Ali. Was wild.

Plenty for the whiners to whine about. Fill yer boots if that’s how you like to show your support. I don’t recognize it as the best of Liverpool, at all. But a certain entitlement has crept in that fails to acknowledge that adversity is part of the overall game. Nobody wants it. And we are below par. But the constant whining grates.

What I saw was a struggling team go behind, then, unlike on other occasions this season where we fell apart and conceded more, we showed some fight and drew level.

Not great, at all, but the point won closed the gap to fourth from three points to two points. This season the league challenge for a team in transition will be to finish high enough to qualify for the CL.

We have issues, and it will be a hard upward climb to get to where we want to be. But a bit of fight today was nice to see after going behind again.

Why did Yanited get shit-truck Sunderland at Old Toilet and we got 2000s Barcelona?

Fairdinkum unbelievable.

Our problems start and end with Arne, he’s made us a really poor footballing side, we’re a sorry state.

Klopp would come in and turn this shit round in a day.

Bringing him back on did not resolve much either. The frustrating thing about this game is that it answers no questions whatsoever, not a disaster, but yet another setback after the West Ham win offered some progress

Dude…

If you think this is 100% mgr you’re not as erudite as I thought.

I think we did well to get a draw. :slightly_smiling_face:

At least it is not a loss. Slot has been outcoached by the opposition manager again. If Chiesa and Wirtz didn’t do what they did, Slot is fucked.

Gakpo is just really a one trick pony. Our corners are just pathetic. Our build up play is back to that aimless and ponderous side to side passing.

Shoutout to the Sunderland keeper for THAT pass. Marma would never do it in a thousand years. For some reason, we don’t do it any more…

It is Leeds and Brighton next in the league. Anything less than 4 points is really worthy of a sack.

Christ, the Sunderland wankfest on Sky is infuriating. Can Carra be excused to the gents to finish himself off?

A draw is fine. It’s absolutely fine. A couple of weeks ago we lose that. No, it isn’t good enough - I isn’t what we want, but it’s better, and that’s the most important thing. We need to be better again, of course we do. But we are not going to jump from relegation form to putting four past the team in sixth place in a couple of games. We need to be realistic. We need to be patient.

We’re not in a title race, so we don’t have to treat draws like the end of the fucking world. I thought we overcommitted in the last moments, to be honest, and we almost got punished for it.

We’re two fucking points of top four. Two points. There is no need to be silly.

Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep going. Keep doing the basics. Don’t let adversity get the better of you.

As a postscript, the attitude some of you have in the match thread is a fucking disgrace, it really is. Losing your shit because it’s 0-0 at half time. Have a fucking word with yourselves.

Was a bit dull but it’s not the end of the world some are painting it as absolutely low on confidence but at least we didn’t lose.

£450m spent for what?

To be 11 points behind and clinging on to a top half spot. If we hadn’t fluked our way in our first 5 games, we’d be closer to 17th and we could have zero complaints.

How much deeper in the abyss is this man allowed to take us into before he gets the boot?

How many of you voted Chiesa man of the match! Are you fucking insane? He did well for the clearance, but he was the one playing him onside in the first place!

Respectfully, that’s a very odd take. You’d think we aren’t in the midst of the worst run of form since the 1950s with a comment like that. The “whiners” and “complainers” have good reason to whine and complain. This team’s form is dire and in need of turnaround, and supporters who want this team to succeed are allowed to complain about it without being condescended to.

I told the missus that we drew with Sunderland. Her reaction was: “That’s bad. It’s like playing against shit players and getting a shit score.”
I think she may have a future as a pundit.

Nan of the match is a bit harsh, but yes he deservedly gets a vote for man of the match.

Good players, bad team. Occasionally we’ll come up against someone who plays in a way that makes us look better than we are but it won’t be that often.

At least it’s not a loss and back to square one. But jeez I’m not looking forward to the games coming thick and fast over Christmas. And no matter what anyone thinks the loss of Salah for a chunk isn’t somehow going to ease our problems.
