Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris: “We were a bit surprised to have time and space to play.”

All part of the tactics so we didn’t concede first.

Okay, I’ll humour you, even though you’re not even bothering to read the posts.

Chiesa starts a few yards deeper. The pass leaves a 1v1 situation, Chiesa vs the attacker. That’s good coaching is it? That’s a proper set up to defend a corner?

Jesus wept. NOBODY IS FUCKING HAPPY. Stop strawmanning.

Today was better, and a draw isn’t the end of the world. We need to be a lot better than this, but it’s an improvement.

After losing shitloads and conceding ten goals in three games, it’s totally fine to look at four points from the last two games, and one goal conceded.

Fact is if you’re last man you cannot let the lad get a headstart on you in your own half.

However, the issue we should be talking about is why Chiesa is last man for an attacking corner in the dying seconds of a game. That seems like a pretty dumb set up to me.

It absolutely is when we waste time for most of the match kicking from side to side doing fuck all, to knock it up the pitch and end up.passing back to the goalie just to start again.

So when a goalie reacts and boots it upfield and our superstars who play week in week out cant be arsed to react in quickness & its left to a bit part player that is not a defender but manages to do enough to clear it off the line to stop us from losing …absolutely its worthy of a man of the match vote considering how crap the rest have been.

It should be okay to have different opinions. I might come back when you’ve stopped arguing.

Very reminiscent of the season when Fab & Hendo fell off a cliff, our performers from last year haven’t come to the fore and add to that, the introduction of the new players, we are really struggling.

I think we just reset and look to the future and develop a style that works for the team and the players that will be here next season whilst looking to get into the top 4.

Drawing at home to Sunderland is an improvement after we still conceded first and looked toothless for 85 minutes isn’t an improvement in my book.

Oh right. @RER is on straw manning tonight, and you’ve drawn gaslighting?

The one on one is the attacker versus the keeper. Chiesa isn’t part of that until Ali slows him down and Chiesa then gets back (brilliantly, by the way). He creates that one one one by failing to spot the Sunderland player ghosting into the position.

I’m pretty sure Slot isn’t telling Chiesa not to worry about the opposition getting away like that. ‘Everyone just fucking pile forward and don’t worry about opposition lads getting a clear run on Ali - it’ll be fine’

My only questions about the set up is a) why Chiesa is last man in the first place, when he should really be in the box - usually your full backs should be covering) b) why we have so many forward when the priority should be ensuring the point rather than throwing everything looking for the win.

Slot: “It is clear that teams who play us now think they can get a result.”

Ummm!!! ok

I understand your point, truly. I think the negativity is warranted, though sometimes it’s a bit unreasonable. I’ve tried to strike a balance throughout the years I’ve posted here, but I’m very disappointed in what I’ve seen from some players and Slot over these last couple months. I agree it can become grating, but I also don’t begrudge it because the club’s form warrants it. I also don’t begrudge those who choose not to engage in it. Match threads are for instant reactions, anyway, and sometimes those aren’t the best thought out (which is why I usually don’t post often in them - I like to ruminate before commenting).

My issue is, though, is that the complainers are directing their ire at the club. The other side is directing their ire at the complainers. And that’s why I’m more annoyed with the latter than the former - it’s the reaction (and subsequent counterreaction) that ends up causing the board to become borderline unreadable.

There’s nothing that requires anyone to engage with posts they disagree with. If you think someone is annoying, put them on ignore. Or scroll past it like I usually do. Having a go at them just devolves the discussion.

Your book is shit. You need a new one.

Taking four points from six and conceding one goal is an improvement by any measure.

That’s been the constant refrain these last couple months. We don’t close them down. We give them too much space to play.

At 1 nil you could understand it a little, but not at 1 - 1

its fun for opposition to play at anfield now

Lets be clear might be an improvement in results. But in terms of performance we still conceded first and we were incredibly lucky not to throw it away at the end.

You’ve drawn logic and reason I see.

I hear you on the alternate thread! :joy:

I had a day off today and was on the whole time, but it was hard work! I’m hoping we, as fans in here, will all come out just fine. Most of it is probably down to personality type and temperament. Glass half full/empty stuff.

As an olive branch to the nay-sayers, I want to say that we definitely have lots of reasons to be concerned. Calling that out is fair game. I don’t want to delegitimize your concerns as they are valid. I see those things too.

I suppose what I’m calling for is a bit more acknowledgement of the struggle that sometimes comes in football, and then when it does, to try to be fair-minded instead of sticking the boot in.

We are the reigning champions. We spent a lot of money in the summer. Most of us thought that would bring another title challenge, and hopefully back-to-back wins, that a bit of a dynasty might form.

But it has not worked out like that. We can all see the issues - grief, integrating new players, loss of form, aging stars, and a manager who seems less decisive on his team and his system, such that there are now legitimate questions as to whether or not he will make it through and be here for the long haul.

So while all that is playing out…

My approach will be to support them and back them to get there.

Top four and CL winners this season. Let’s be ‘avin yer!

Slot and the players knew 1 all wasn’t a good result why you are pushing for the 2nd.

Just look at all forms of social media there is thousands of posts criticising the performance.
