Post match: Liverpool v Wolves (EPL 27/12/25 3pm)

Slot’s mandate is to make the best use of his squad in order to maximise the chances of winning titles and trophies. He did win the title, but he did so despite his poor use of his squad not because of it, and his continuing misuse isn’t working so well this time around.

If you think that navigating the most brutal league in the world with 14 players is prudent and smart, good for you. I think that it’s stupid and dangerous.

“Waaahhhhhh! He won the league but not in the way I think he should have!”

Pathetic attempt to respond, surely you can do better than this.

I gave it all the time it warranted. Much like Slot does with Chiesa.

When you are resorting to arguments that begin “he won the league despite….” there isn’t a really a lot to respond to.

He won the league. There is no despite. He won the league.

I think he did magnificently to steer the club to an unexpected league title in his first season. It’s no more than anyone had any right to expect.

I’ve never understood the idea than having won the league, then that achievement is safe while we then unpick all the decisions that led to it.

Slot won the league. Had he played Chiesa (a player who outside ten minute cameos looks frankly poor), then he might not have.

And for only the second time in 35 years. Its an important achievement and, notwithstanding what’s happened since, deservedly buys him more time.

If Slot had made wholesale changes before last season, we would have afforded him time.
His “mistake” was success in his first season. It has dammed him to accusations of only winning with Klopps squad.

One way or other, he is ENTITLED to this season. All the changes, all the injuries etc, he has a pass because of achievement.

I’m unsure of his future at the club, but lets look at Arteta at Arsenal? No league win? Spent loads of money, and afforded time. I’m pretty sure their fans would swap positions with us, a title in the bag. No guarantee they’ll win it this season either.

You could/should have stopped there.
On one full season he has achieved that goal.

Pretty sure the owners will give him this and next season without trophies as long as Slot doesn’t miss out on CL qualification. That’s where the big money comes in.

And he would leave the club as a Premier League winner, and nothing can take that away :+1:

Slot and Gakpo is this season’s “Lucas”, “Henderson” etc. Nothing they do will be good enough to certain quarters of fans. Yeah he won the league but Slot still sucks… yeah we are on an unbeaten run but Slot sucks… yeah Gakpo has one the highest goal involvements but yeah he still sucks.

Its one thing to pick out what they can improve on but another thing to totally disregard their contributions and make it out that we are winning despite of them and not because they are part of the equation. When we win, its never because of them. When we lose, its only because of them.

i think the biggest issue is the lack of anything that suggests we are making progress in the transistion to whatever it is we are meant to be transitioning to…

maybe now with a few results in the bag, we can start to see what the plan is…

the other issue is, when we really needed a handbrake on the slide, it took the best part of two months to find a solution, thats always going to work against him going forward…

whatever happens, its going to be an absolutely intriguing second half of the season…to see how this obviously talented squad reacts and improves, to see where Slot is at when it comes to rebuilding this team mentally and structurally…somehow…somehow…we are in the top four and ‘only’ ten points off the actual top spot…its a bizarre season

Ordinarily, this obviously talented squad would be winning the league. This season, the lack of a really top class team means the league is poorer than usual. We lost leagues to City (cheated) with much better sides than is competing now. Thats the real bitter pill of the season. We should be winning this.
But, the circumstances have fucked us over. The tragedy pre season. The rapid changing of the old guard. Injuries. Poor performances from senior players.
I hope Slot turns this around. Start with giving Leeds a motherfucker of a hiding and work from there.

Tip of the hat to United for making our unimpressive win against wolves look slightly less unimpressive

Alternative take. Wolves are so bad that they were held by an under strength united and we only scraped a win against them

I think we all understand the glass isn’t full.. from there it’s just semantics.

I’m choosing to believe it’s slightly above half full because that helps me sleep better at night.
