POST MATCH: Man City v Liverpool (EPL 8/11/20 4.30pm)

I am talking about all penalties, not the one City got, mate. I would not be fuming if we didn’t get those, and I mean that. I would be fuming now, but that is because the rule interpretation means it is a pen. But I think that rule is bullshit and destructive for the game. I don’t want us to get those pens and I don’t want anyone else to get them. It should be changed.
Again, as I said, their penalty was nothing to complain about, it is the rule I complain about.

Energy wasn’t there in the second half. Some wasteful passing and possession conceded too easily at times. Weren’t clinical enough. Really should have scored a second. Expected a more accomplished performance. They were there for the taking.

Their penalty was a joke. We should just try and smash the ball at defenders arms from now on rather than cross it in if they are going to give penalties for that. He was trying to get his hand out of the way and turning away from the ball

I thought the pen against us was stupid and I just saw the pen for Leicester against Wolves… Thats dreadful… If only refs had a proper job they would get sacked every other week…

Cherry picking in second half.

Absolutely, I have 0.000% complaints about the ref. There is no such complaint in my post. It is the new rule-interpretation that all refs must follow that I am complaining about.

The amount of games is killing the players with regards to injuries and I feel this will have an impact in how teams finish this season for those in the Champs league it is going to be a hard season on the players

The referees have to give those now. Not just in the Premier League but worldwide. Bet they aren’t happy themselves but laws are dictated by IFAB.

The only thing I can think is that you never actually played the game at a decent level if you really think that. Should defenders running back actually have their hands down at the sides. Trying running like that and let me know. He had no time to move his hand out of the way. In the olden days of common sense, that would have been called ‘the ball playing the man’.

I thought the defensive organization was very good. And the PK miss tends to overshadow our dominance of the chances created in the game.

A really interesting tactical setup and had we been ruthless in front of goal, would’ve won this.

On the equalizer, several individual errors- angle taken by Gini, Mane’s high press which freed up Walker and his failure to recover the space vacated by Gini, etc…

Interesting from Pep, both him and Klopp at the end were discussing 5 subs in the Premier league, it needs to be brought in to protect the best players who are playing all these games and then you have the useless international matches

Agree with this very hard to get his arm out of the way especially with the pace on the pass

The way these penalties and new offside rules are adjudged willy-nilly has really made it difficult to structure the future of our game… Has anyone of these numpties that instigate the rulings ever considered the bigger impact it will have on the grassroot schoolboy levels of teaching them the game…
The fun and excitement is being ripped from the game before our very eyes and as fans there is very little we can do about it…

Happy with the point away to them. I remember that was how City won the league a couple of years ago, by taking a draw at Anfield, maybe a foreshadow of the end results for us this year. The first half was a great display of football, very enjoyable to watch. I didn’t like the handball call against us, but it is consistent with the call earlier in the day for Leicester, and KDB missed, which was maybe a nod from the football god Even Steven. Second half was rough after about 55. We looked a bit knackered (a combinaton of the pitch, weather, and quality of opponent), but we held on. I thought the referring of the game was about the best that we have had this season, which does not mean that it was the highest of quality.

Two things annoyed me in the game. The first was innocuous to most, but in the second half Gomez headed the ball out of bounds, when he was not under pressure. The annoyance came for the memories of Liverpool teams pre Klopp, where they did not have a clue about spatial awareness. I thought that both Gomez and Matip were very good on the balance of things. The second annoyance was not letting Shaq have a go on that last free kick, and instead trying a half arsed chip to the right side of the box.

As said earlier, happy with a point at theirs. Heal up quick TAA, and motor on LFC.

Interesting interview from Juergen, he said that Sadio and Jogo had the task of defending and filling in the half spaces…he reckoned they went to sleep (because they are attackers) for about 10 minutes and that let them in…
Tactical error…difficult set up to defend. We will perfect it if it’s the way he wants us to play…love this man

I fucking pissed myself when they missed their penalty. Thankfully my sofa is covered in palstic, easy to mop up!

Aside from the ridiculous penalty given against us, another decision by VAR that did not go our way, I was very happy with the performance. I did not know how we would cope with the absence of VVD. To be honest, I thought his injury had ended our chances of the title. However, I actually think that if things go our way, we are still in with a chance this year. We need Matip and Gomez to stay fit but the two of those are a pretty good pairing and can hold the fort while VVD is gone.

Our attacking play has also been sensational and that is why I think we are still in it. Mane and Salah are playing incredible stuff and with the addition of Jota, if we can just get Firminio firing again, we can tear teams to pieces.

One of the worse games I can remember for Mane; not on his usual penetrating game, and dare I say it, I thought (out of tiredness) he was diving a little in the last quarter of the game, where his runs were being blocked off. More so, he was likley at fault for the equaliser, and failed to track Walker, causing Gini to shuffle over and fill in, which left the space for KDB. Anyway, we can spare him one game, he is usually mostly our best player.

Dont like the tinkering the Boss is doing with the front line and midfield.

Dunno why but we seemed to just run out of steam at 35 mins, and the balance of the game shifted, and we never got it back.

Meh indeed, and Doh @cynicaloldgit

Happy with the 1 point… City will be there in the end fighting for the title. So at least we didn’t lose any ground on them… Also we probably should of lost based on an uncharacteristically penalty miss by Debruyne

It’s been a while we had to settle and feel happy about a draw… Today was one such day… Looks like both managers, players and fans were all happy with a draw… Shows the level of respect between both set of managers and players… Hope Trent is OK… International break is saving some players - Thiago not selected for International duty and Salah/Mane will stay back… Any updates on Ox… He seems to be missing game after game after a freak injury during pre season… Thought it wasn’t serious but he still isn’t in scheme of things…
