Why oh why are people saying we played 4 2 3 1 we were a 4 4 2 setup even Klopp acknowledges that Mane and Jota had to play as midfielders in today’s setup
Joe Gomez: “It’s frustrating. Everyone knows the power De Bruyne can hit the ball. I was just running. I’m not going to run with my hands behind my back. It happened in real time - not slow motion.”
TBH I don’t agree with Joe. Clear pen IMO.
We played 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-4.
Maybe Mané and Jota should have tried to switch wings from time to time.
Goals conceded are naturally analysed. In the lead up the positioning, pressing and marking were all off point. It’s often a chain event. Noticed at the time. Let’s leave it there though.
To be honest and we are always fluid in our system, as are a lot of teams, but the basic setup up was 4 4 2
Looks 4-2-3-1 to me.
This is a very nice option. Mane is actually a difficult player to mark and the defender on the other flank would be shit scared watching him change flanks. It’ll also fck up their Left forwards tactics. And Jota on left is really good. Should try this out in certain games.
1-2-5-3 to me
4-2-3-1 wit super high full backs making 2-4-3-1
Mané when he signed for us was unplayable on the right side.
Jota has his strengths on the left.
Should be a no brainer.
More than understand. I’m not berating the team. Far from it. Ultimately though we could have done better despite the opposition and schedule.
We controlled the half spaces much more in the second half and were more secure defensively so that’s a plus. That said though we should have scored more. Passing went too long at times too soon.
Happy with the point. I thought Joel did well for his first game back. Him and Joe make a decent partnership. MOM to our keeper. In those conditions his reading of the game was excellent, came and collected stuff that other keepers wouldn’t have and made the defensive side a lot easier for those in front of him.
I think Shaq was brought on because we needed a player who could control and keep the ball.
Finally, playing with all 4 attackers is very exciting but I feel it doesn’t leave us with a change later on.
Hmmmm. Felt 4-2-4 to me. And a bit disorganized 4 up front.
If that Front 4 dont play in their strongest positions then it doesn’t work.
Mane had the beating of Walker and Dias, there was no way Klopp was going to switch him over for Jota.
I agree that Jota looks better on the left or centrally, today he had to take one for the team. In other games I’d like to see them switch over, but it wasn’t the right call today.
Nope we were deffo set up 4 4 2 as I said Klopp mentioned it in the immediate after match interview
Wasn’t looking forward to this one, but I thought with a better rub of the green we could have been 3 up after 15mins.
The conditions were dreadful though… A bit of rain helps both teams with their game… The rain that fell today took its toll on the flow of the match and the players.
Despite a tough 2nd half possession wise they didn’t really create very much and overall the better chances were ours.
I’d have taken a draw beforehand though so can’t complain to much with a point.
Complete stuttering mess of streams today. So I have to watch the recording of this match to make any kind of accurate review. Here’s my first impression anyway.
We looked very impressive in the first half, we created many chances. Unfortunately Bobby was not quite himself when we had those massive chances. I believed that if we were just a little bit sharper, the match would be out of City’s reach after the first half.
With the heavy rain, the rain soak pitch, plus the gung-ho start and used up a lot of energy earlier, we did not have that edge in the 2nd half. With 1 less bonafide midfielder, we were more on the defensive in this half, while not able to create chances for our forwards. In addition, I wonder what our boys were thinking when TAA sat on the ground by himself. I could see that some air was let out of our balloon. We sat deeper and deeper. Our passes were sluggish, and became very disjointed. To be honest, I am not sure if the lack of rhythm was because of my stuttering stream, or our boys were tired. Even Sadio had the odd poor match.
Surprises or not so surprises of the match:
-
After a bit of a body check for Diogo, Sterling only dive after he realised he started to lose his footing and balance. It could be a dangerous free kick outside the box if that one was given.
-
Penalty was given against Joe. Really stupid and lack of common sense to give that pen. This is not Monty Python and one cannot run around without his arms. I was expecting the pen given, but it shouldn’t be given.
-
De Bruyne missed pen. Well, Ali dived the wrong way, but that miss? Totally unexpected. I guess it’s justice done after a garbage pen (more like garbage rule). Since the pen was given, we got away with one there.
I really don’t know who give my 3 picks to…the difficulty was exactly the opposite when compared with the one against Atalanta. Here it goes anyways. I may change my mind after watching the match again:
- Hendo: Just being himself! With only Gini partnering him in the midfield, Hendo was immense.
- Joel: Welcome back Joel. He looked pretty goofy before the start of the match, but the goofiness was gone as soon as the match started.
- Ali: Absolutely there when called upon. He couldn’t really do much with Jesus’ goal (one angle has the ball slipped under him, but that’s just because the camera was behind Ali, and did not show us the depth perception.). My stream lost connection for a minute or so, and when I the match going again, the commentator was talking about whether Ali is OK. Heart in the month when I heard that.
The boss mentioned that TAA was down because he felt something in the calf. Let’s hope that it is nothing serious.
Our boys need the rest! I think that TAA (and the other boys!) should stay home and not on international duties.
