I’m a git, although not necessarily a shit, to everyone.
It’s all calm, fans can argue. It’s normal given the situation we’re in. There’s no insults or anything being thrown around it’s all good.
Immediate reaction to this game was WTF!
But after that I calmed down…a bit!
Never going to like losing the the Mancs, none of us do,but we seem to have brought some of this on ourselves.
The vibe on the pitch doesn’t feel the same, which is a worry.
Maybe some players are running out of legs a bit, which is bloody frustrating but it happens. The injury list is a bit daunting, love Bobby to bits but he isn’t looking much like the Bobby we know this time around.
Still don’t believe the title is out of reach but we need to turn it around smartish or it will be.
Haven’t looked at the table yet, think I’m scared to,but know we are closer to the wrong end.
All this talk about making up a bigger margin last season: the point is we couldn’t make it up and cheaty closed it out. That wrecked the lads psychologically and there is no chance they will be able to chase down a big lead this season. If we were to win another PL under Klopp this year we were going to need to do it like 19-20 and get in front of Cheaty and open up a gap as they don’t like chasing. Because of the way teams (and refs) roll over for cheaty the title is gone.
Hope training for the next few days is not a happy place - wasn’t enjoying the smiling, joking images I saw of players after the Palace draw when they should have been livid that their season had been derailed. Suspect that will have to change or we are in real trouble of a repeat of 20-21 (and we can’t expect Allison to get the winner again).
We are in big trouble now if Milner and Henderson is starting for us together in the 22/23 season. This is just so disappointing…
After what Klopp has proven over the years is that he can get everyhting back on track. We’ve got an early season blip. Maybe it has wiped out the title aspirations. But as ever, it’s too early to concede anything.
Regroup, sort out the issues in training, and go on a winning run. See where we can get to by the mid season break, then can evaluate during it.
Get a settled back four, get Fab back in business, and we should be good to go.
Well, how did we end up in an entirely predictable scenario, huh?
Precisely, what is going on in the minds of the scouting, medical and coaching team such that we think Thiago, Keita and AOC can make it through the season unscathed?
JK having faith in this core group, and this midfield was justified, even though we could have done with a midfielder at least.
Faith can be misplaced, and when injuries of the scale we saw a two seasons ago come up we need to respond the way we responded last season (Kabak and Davies but better quality).
Wow, just wow!
I believe Klopp will need to assess his players available honestly and plan for the immediate games near term as well mid-term with transfers to salvage this season.
Bloody rubbish!
We lack physicality and VVD is a shadow of himself, Alisson is fat again.
Very disappointed so writing rubbish but there’s some truth there somewhere.
What about Salah, Diaz and Firmino?
We should have phases when we vote for the worst player not the best.
He’s going to get himself injured the way he’s carrying on imo. Needs to stop hesitating or get benched!
What?
We can’t get shots on target, still!
Firmino is no longer the same firmino we saw in the past for so many reasons.
I have said this so many times. Firmino as a CF worked when he was the one linking up the play, pulling DMs and CBs attention from our wingers and playing out of tight marking. But he has a big weakness, he ain’t a superb finisher.
Over time, his physical ability waned and teams figured him out by leaving him alone and focusing on the 2 wingers as you can bet firmino will only score a 40 yarder in 1 out of god knows how many chances. All it takes is for the opposing DM to shadow him , out run him and he will disappear. Even if Firmino goes into the box, he ain’t a great header of the ball so the GK can pretty well rest easy.
When Firmino is passed the ball all the opposition has to do is put 3 on Salah. That’s a coaching problem, too much focus on 1 player!
i still dont think we were as bad as everyone wants to make out.
not saying we were great
take TAA for example, its just held as gospel he played undisciplined and badly, but some of his stuff was really positive and forcing the play.
i saw one comment in the match thread when he tried to fizz one accross first time ‘your not steven Gerrard’
the general vibe i am getting is hes taking too many risks, hes out of shape, hes trying to force the game…but thats just it isnt it, thats what hes been asked to do…
i do wonder sometimes how many people went like this
‘ahh FFS trent you plonker, dont take the corner quickly, no ones innnnnnn …there…hell yes mate, brilliant, your a legend, a genius, its quick thinking like that that we need to see more of’
again, the end result sometimes frames the narative about the performance itself, and that can be really damning.
i said to my daughter at the time, i was glad Trent tried a few things and tried to force the issue.
yes Klopp was screaming at him at one stage, and people use that as some form of evidence that he had a shocker…and im sorry, i just dont think he did.
Virgil, same, was really poor in one or two moments (that do make a difference, i do realise) but he wasnt horrible all game.
another one was a comment regarding Alisons positioning for Rashfords goal…i mean, im no goalkeeper, but i had to watch it a few times over to try and understand the point.
again, theres problems, dont get me wrong, there is definately problems, but people are making out like that particular game was a horror show…
i suppose thats how good this team is though…away from home, 9 players out, conceded a contentious offside goal, had a fullback sitting on a yellow for 70 minutes and still got periods of absolute possesion domination and probably, if we are being honest, deserved the draw.
Ok but ‘deserved a draw’ against the team that wss bottom of the table is not much of a positive. I like Sweeting’s comments on tactics and agree with Mascot that it’s easy to say ‘sign a midfielder’ but much harder to get whats reqd BUT…
I’m really concerned about the progress to evolve the squad since Gini left. We have known about Ox and Naby and Hendo injury issues for years and, because of his age, Thaigo was always likely to be a shorter term stopgap even if he stayed injury free (which was a gamble) and Millie has actually done better than we could have expected then. Even knowing all of this we have not been aggressive enough revamping our squad: Carvalho was a good cheap purchase, Dias was a smart aggressive purchase - perhaps because we knew Mane was off? However we needed (and still need) more. Bobby has been winding down for ages and losing Divock, Taki and Mane last summer meant we are now too reliant on him. We need to bring in a top quality forward to provide competition for Mo and Darwin and round out our fwd line with either 6 players (of whom Bobby is 6th) or (more likely) let Bobby go.
In midfield we need two more who can reliably play 90 mins. A DM and another. Really we can’t count on Naby or Ox and it’s well past time for Millie - he must only be an extra player not someone we rely upon to start matches. Injuries happen - we’ve been here before with Klopp so it needs to be planned for if we actually want to win the big prizes.
