Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (EPL 22/8/22 8pm)

Need to get Salah more involved at the business end. Maybe with TAA and Andy below par, we should revert to them both doing more of the 2017-19 version of up and down the wing, to allow Mo not be be mostly stationed wide right.

This woul dalso allow Andy/Tsimikas to support Diaz on the left. This is where Andy has gone off the boil - he is not doing his runs down the line when Diaz has the ball - rather he is coming inside to an already conjested area.

I don’t have an issue with the onside call. The greater tolerance was what most wanted. It’s just that this week and last week, a fraction of a second earlier step up both times would have had made Zaha and RAshford both offside for sure.

We messed up the offside trap in similar ways both times. When we have a settled pairing, these step ups are bread and butter.

When is Nunez back?

By the way, anyone who still doesn’t think that matches are fixed can do one.

Yes, we were shit tonight. But the difference in arbitration was a joke.

Suspended for a further two games - Bournemouth and Newcastle. Back for the Merseyside derby…

Ten Hag made some decisions to shape a team - big decisions, the sort that most on here would have made, but ones that smaller ‘yes men’ managers they’ve had would not make. Ronaldo benched, Maguire benched, and all of a sudden they looked a step quicker all over the park. We started too slowly, again.

Dalot went through Diaz multiple times. It’s incredible what the refs let them do. I think Diaz is a smashing player, but he will have to get a bit of Mane’s nasty streak about him, or else he will be kicked out of too many games.

The balance in the trio up front wasn’t right. They were miles apart when they needed to be closer together. I love Bobby but I want to see a bit more of Carvalho, as he looks like he will make stuff happen.

We missed Nunez. It was too comfortable for their defence.

I won’t have a go at Milner. He started because we had a list of midfielders who are not available. Milner should be closing out games to get some rest into the legs of main men, with the game already won. Instead, we are the down to bare bones in the engine department, so Milner is having to start.

It’s early days but we need to buck our ideas up, pronto. A home game against Bournemouth is about the easiest the Prem offers, so we simply have to respond.

I won’t say the title has gone, as that would be ridiculous, but I suspect this season will be more of a top four campaign, hopefully with a nice CL win if we don’t win the league. I think we are in the middle of a bit of a reset. We are a little short, and it is being exacerbated by injuries.

Add Caicedo to get some legs in the midfield right now, and then Bellingham next summer as the long term Hendo replacement, and all of a sudden it looks that much better.

But at the moment we are getting overrun in the engine department, and we have started slowly.

Saido Mane, 30 years, hardly gets injured, sold for £27.4m plus addons.

Said in his thread that I’d prefer we keep an angry frustrated Mane for one year and let him leave for free rather than give him away for anything under £50m. He maybe would have sulked for a bit, then the Sadio that we know would come out on the pitch.

Look at Robert Lewandowski - FOUR years older, same one year left on contract, sold for £38m plus addons.

The title has gone. The issue is not that we’ve dropped 7 points. It is that we’ve deserved to drop 7 points and look a side that is going to continue to drop points over the next few weeks until we figure out a solution to what is going wrong.

We’ve been bad. We have caused ourselves our own problems.

And yet with the same decisions Manchester City get, we’d have won at Fulham and at least got a draw today.

Despite playing like garbage.

You are probably right, but it just doesn’t seem right to say it, with 35 games to go, so I won’t say it!

The margin last season was much greater, around the halfway point, and we clawed our way back and had title winning hope even into the game on the last day, as Villa took a two goal lead over Man City.

I gave my prediction, given the slow start, and I think it will be more of a top four sort of season, hopefully with a CL win, as we have a bit of a reset.

Ifs and buts. We’re winless.

We’ve played 3 atrocious sides and we’ve come away without a win.

If we don’t win Saturday, the title is over. Gone. Finito. Dead. Buried. C’est Fini.

The City who dropped points yesterday after having VAR overturn a ref disallowing a goal and a red card?

Im sure there will be people who can find blame for tonight’s result on the poor fuck who plays CB for Palace who Nunez spent 60 minutes trying to wack last week.

And the league table never lies, right?

I suppose you believe in Santa, too.

That was a frustrating watch.

Bobby was coming in our own half to get the ball at times, yet Mo and Diaz seemed to be instructed to stay wide, with Milner and Harvey making forward runs into an area that TAA had already come into, and Andy for some bizaare reason kept running to as well, instead of supporting Diaz with a run down the wing.

Mau Utd were giving it their all to close, and when they nicked the ball, more than half our team were now out of the game with their positioning.

The way Man Utd closed down, it was crying out for a Thiago style shimmy to take them out of play. Rather, we seemed to buckle under a player like Bruno diving in and mishit the ball (usually straight into the covering player).

Diaz does well to get up and continue. But that first lunge into him was late and more than a yellow, yet nothing.

The only positive from TAA was he sensed the ref style, and made a foul early on but picked up a yellow quickly for his second indiscretion.

How about you go to sleep tonight thinking about all the decisions that could’ve gone our away and how we could be sitting on 9 points right now yeah? Good lad.

Reality will be waiting for you when you wake up.

The same City who should’ve been down to ten, if not nine, men and had a clear penalty not awarded against them?

And who have completely coincidentally benefited from numerous spurious decisions since they became rich?

Ok guys, don’t worry, our season starts next week.

Don’t worry about me lad, I’ll still make it up in time for 7am when work starts. Least I won’t be the one hungover from all the poor decisions….that have been happening for the best part of 10 years.

Try thirty years.
