Post Match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 18/2/23 5.30pm)

He used to regularly be able to take the ball from defence and beat his marker off the half-turn (much like Bajcetic did in the build up to Cody’s goal). Now he passes it right back or gets it nicked off him. Definitely lost some quickness

He’s just slow at everything, the yellow he got was because again he was a second too late to a tackle… The type he used to make multiple times a game.

Inescapable conclusion. And if they need lengthy rest to play like they did against Everton then we need new midfielders

Milner doesn’t have the pace any more but even he is quicker than Fab as evidenced by his clean tackling…well…mostly clean

For me what was worse was the number of risky passes we attempted…I hope that was the byproduct of being one man up

That’s insulting

One thing I will just remind some people is a goalkeeper is part of the team. It’s not lucky if a world class goalie makes saves. LFC spent a lot of money to get the right goalie.

the day after a win always feels good, but this felt a little different, because of our recent form. Just hope that , this is a start of a winning streak until the end of the season and then we get new players to continue that

True. But Ali made 2-3 really big saves yesterday and we were saved by the cross bar. That’s 4 big chances we gave Newcastle.

I’d prefer if that didn’t happen. Not always possible I agree but not the best sign in my opinion.

Still we won and we have 3 points in the bag. I’ll hope we can improve.

The reason we bought him was to make these types of saves, Newcastle keepers made a few saves also.

Eddie Howe is the first manager to lose 10 consecutive league meetings with Liverpool.
Stupid comment before the game from him about Klopp being a bad loser.

Not energy conserving at all, we are just a very damaged team this season trying to limp over the finish line. Could’ve finished 2-2 but not for Alisson and bit of help from the bar….dont think he’d have been happy with the 10 in front of him trying to “energy conserve” against 10 men.

Without Ali we’d be fighting Palace and Villa for a top 10 spot and thats a fact.

A Newsandcastle fan might say this but a Liverpool fan would remind him Jota missed at least 3 chances along with other chances we created and didn’t finish.

We have been crap for most of the season. Couple of good wins here and there, but mostly crap. Various reasons have been suggested, and we have discussed it for most of the season.

The win against Everton looked much better. Too soon to dare to hope, but we all thought we looked a little bit more like Liverpool.

The win against Newcastle - a much better side than Everton, was a great way to follow up. It wasn’t without issues, and we did give up a few chances, and Alisson was excellent. They also gave up chances against us, in addition to the two times we scored, in their first home loss of the season?

Not perfect. Still some way short of our swaggering best. But after the shite served up for most of the season, we can welcome the result against Newcastle with a big smile.

Is it the start of a run? Too early to say, but all of a sudden, after just two wins, we are 7 points off Spurs in fourth place, and we have two games in hand.

We might yet make something of this dog turd of a season.

We’re half way through the season and about to start the CL knock out stages

Without Rashford so would United. Lucky we’re not without Ali, and are seeing some signs of improvement throughout the rest of the team

The absolute brain fart from their keeper was epic. A moment of utter madness. You see some crazy stuff in sport. Cantona’s kung fu kick, that mad Frenchman’s headbut. Both in the heat of the moment but yesterday’s dash was possibly the most bat shit crazy thing I’ve seen. And I’ve seen a batsman twat his stumps out of the ground and do the bowler’s end too getting out on 99.

I blame the assistant ref more than Taylor as it was right in front of him and he should have flagged for the foul

How can we be saved by the crossbar, no offence but is a daft statement.

In football stats if it a shot hits the crossbar or post and doesn’t go in it is classed as a shot off target
