Post match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 30/12/20 8pm)

It was an average display but we still created plenty to win it. Several clear cut chances were spurned, with Mo most guilty in my eyes. Still, you live and die as a team.

Ideally Jota would have been available. He was red hot and it was so frustrating to lose him. Be that as it may, we really should be winning against the barcodes, WBA, Fulham, Brighton…

Fortunately it is not a normal season, and everyone is dropping points right across the board, so it means we are still top of the pile, just, but to win the league we will have to improve.

I think we will.

Alisson MOTM. Can’t think of another.

I have seen it and watched the replay and I think it was not major, he let go of the leg quickly. If Becker did it and the ref would have given a penalty we would have been fuming. Think it was too soft.

The worrying thing is Southampton are much better than Newcastle. :open_mouth:

This isn’t ice hockey. You can’t tie up a player like that. It’s quick, but it only takes a moment to ensure that Sadio can’t get to the ball.

Which makes me less concerned. The better our opponent, the more they will try to play, leaving us to exploit gaps. A 4-0 scoreline wouldn’t surprise me against saints.

Only if we buy a good CB next month. Williams and Phillips are to slow to play against speedy forwards. If we don’t do that and we stick with them and the almost injured Matip we will not win the league.

Well let’s agree on disagreeing

If that game had been a trifle, you wouldnt have even bothered putting hundreds and thousands on it, not even a sign of a cherry.

Exactly, they are a team with pace and they know how to play. Hope we play a better midfield against then though, that would help.

Southampton have 1 goal in last 5 games haven’t won in 4 its going to be more of the same for us.

If Alisson done that it would be a penalty.

Saw an article by Chris Sutton on this the other day, saying JK’s mood will adversely affect the players. Micah Richards was quoted in the same article as saying the boss looks “aggravated” and put it down to the schedule and injuries. That may be true to an extent but I think JK knows we’re being fucked over on a regular basis but knows if he says anything to that effect the gobshite press/tv will be all over him like a cheap suit.
I thought his response to the free kick Friend gave against Williams v WBA the other day was telling. To lose it like that over an incident like that in a non-threatening position was very strange and is quite simply the angriest I’ve ever seen him since he took the job.

As for tonight’s game, to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. WBA and Newcastle are 2 of the biggest, steaming piles of shite you could ever see in the PL. Both of them absolutely fucking hopeless.
Only ones to come out with any credit imo were Robbo, Milner and Fabinho. Bobby was ok in parts and should have had an assist when he put Salah in after a lovely bit of play, might have had a couple himself but I thought both chances were more difficult than people are making out.
Like I said before the game, I’d have grabbed your hand off to be in this position if it were offered 2 months ago so a bit of perspective is needed. However, if we don’t get a couple of CB’s in asap then I see us finishing without any silverware and may end up in a scrap for top 4 if our rotten luck and shitty, corrupt targeting by referees/VAR continues.
The top teams are going to be run into the ground once the European football returns and it will be a real test of character and endurance. We need to give ourselves the best possible chance of coping and if that means breaking the bank then JK needs to let the owners know just what’s at stake.

I don’t have an agenda. Just pointing out that even with perfect distribution our midfielders couldn’t string a few positive passes forward without giving up possession.

Loved seeing Thiago back. The main disappointment was how we didn’t get the ball to him enough, particularly in injury time. Too much fannying about when we should have allowed him to do his stuff.

PM? Naw, I think we all deserve a nice bowl of noodles.

My take on tonight’s/this season’s performance is, if at the start of the season somebody had explained our injury list and the games key personnel would miss and offered me top four, I’d have taken it and hope to push on through the second half of the season. It’s natural for the leader of a race to be looking over their shoulder.

We’ Kick on. Jürgen knows far more than we (TAN) know. I never went to Melwood and don’t expect to be @ Kirkby any time soon, so I for one am quite happy to leave the team selection and tactics up to The Biss. Still a lot of footy to be played. Dare I say it?

Starting to feel that way. Shit games, shit season, no crowds. This and last match was like one of those Benitez matches where we wouldn’t have scored if we played for a week, tonight a bit better. Injuries and fatigue starting to catch up, not really optimistic for the rest of the season.
