Kelleher was outstanding until today, let’s not throw him under the bus. The whole team was a little too confident after the last two wins. A draw still seems like a good result after a lack laster result. Arne got it all wrong with his starting 11. Even though he improved under Slot, Núñez is still under performing
Nunez was a disaster. He went to pieces after he missed the ball on Gapko’s header. You could see the confidence draining out of him afterwards in everything he did.
He’s reached a point that the further away he plays from the opposition box, the better he is. Which wouldn’t be a big problem if it wasn’t for the fact that he is supposedly a striker.
As for the game, the only way it could have gone worse would be to throw in a few more injuries on top of the dropped points and all that effort that went to waste thanks to Kelleher’s blunder.
We were coming off two extremely demanding fixtures, we needed to keep things calm, control the game, score a goal or two, close shop and get 3 points as smoothly as possible. Instead we ran into a buzzsaw that wouldn’t stop running, pressing and fouling, all the while aided and abetted by the useless cunt they put in charge.
Slot’s hitherto refusal to rotate bit him in this one and will probably do so again in the coming weeks. There were a lot of players who didn’t look right, either physically or mentally. Gravenberch in particular looked like he should have been spared from this one from the beginning. The one exception was Salah who keeps producing one incredible performance after another. I just hope that we are not becoming over-reliant on him. His numbers are absurd, he is bound to regress at some point.
I think the biggest difference in Nunez and Mane is that we’d have confidence in Mane to do something productive with the ball.
I love the effort of Nunez but the skill levels to be consistently good enough to be leading a forward line in a team hoping to win the league sadly just isn’t there.
There seems to be a good togetherness in the squad… They will rally around Kelleher, and could soon be forgotten if we pick up 3points on Saturday
It wasn’t his finishing it was his link up or lack of he just gave the ball away needlessly the whole game and some were simple passes.
The difference between a good player and a great player is what between the ears. Núñez is too emotional and not cerebral enough.
This is the crux of it we never had control and I also thought we we were too open, never compact when out of possession, didn’t help that we had a lot of players diving in or over committing to a challenge and therefore getting beaten too easily
Not a great day for us, but a point at St James is not to be sneezed at.
Reffing was awful but we are used to that.
Kelleher fucked up, but we all do, he has been pretty good filling in for Ali ,so not inclined to crucify him.It will all be forgiven if he keeps Everton out at their Goodison farewell party.
Mo,.of course mades us all wonder what the problem is with Hughes et al.
And you have to wonder what the hell Endo has done to Slot, seems like he can’t buy a decent outing.
Mo MOTM.
I said at 3 - 2, Endo for Macca, the game was screaming out for it
I don’t find that funny. Nor do I find my having left my phone in an Uber amusing. I’ll call you though once I get it back. The driver was nice and was sympathetic about my supporting the Chicago Bears. I’m confident he’ll be back. Talk soon.
I just watched the game again and the ref gave us 5 dead soft yellows and those players were subsequently terrified of making a tackle of any sort especially MacAllister they seem to have it in for him every game he plays?
He certainly isn’t a Norman Hunter.
I fear for Kelleher and Gomez as Slot can be very ruthless when he has able alternatives…Just look at what happened to Quansah…
Started the opening gameweek. Did a few minor mistakes. Got hooked at half-time. Was never seen again in the league until last week and tonight.
Now, plans for the winter window. A DM and a CB will most likely push LFC over the line for the double while a long -term contract extension for TAA, a 3 year contract for Salah and VVD will help to buy LFC some time to find a good replacement .
If a good CB is bought, I think that could be the countdown to the end of Gomez’s LFC career. I would also think this could be Kelleher’s final season with us…
Tough away match. Good away point. We move on.
And every time we’ve had a blip we’ve gone away and improved as Arne learns and adapts to the league swiftly.
There is far too much (negative) talk about individual players here.
Gomez, Robbo, Darwin are not finished here because of 90min of an away game at SJP of all places, after a 3 day break in Dec.
Time to take a breath. We are top of the league by a bit. Our players are entitled to have an off day.
Yeah I think the jury has now come in and Nunez can be found not good enough to be a central striker at Liverpool. Tracking back and winning the odd tackle is not enough for a centre forward. Either we cut our losses on him and sell in the summer or we bring another forward in anyway (maybe two if Mo goes and/or Jota doesn’t regain full fitness) and he becomes a backup reserve option.
Bobby contributed so much more. Darwin still isn’t on the same wavelength as the others most of the time. And he had two terrible misses. 9/10 times when he plays the team have to carry him. He is simply not good enough for us.
Even more apt.
Completely agree. It was a brain fart on Kelleher’s behalf, aside from that he has been excellent.
