Post match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 4/12/24 7.30pm)

Officiating was atrocious. Newcastle were way too physical and they got away with it. They also play acted and dived, Gordon in particular, and the ref bought it all.

We couldn’t touch them without getting a yellow. It was a joke.

Fatal error!

Not a fan of that thought process.

But I didn’t make this particular distinction. All I said was earlier years.

Núñez did score 11 Premier League goals last season if that helps?

He is just a passion merchant and they don’t win you lot of games. Might pump fans at home games and some good away games like he had at Newcastle last season - few and far. As I said his positional sense is great but his finishing and shooting is as poor as it gets in this standard. Most strikers at bottom half can finish better.

I see plenty of people are still talking about ‘inconsistent’ referees ‘buying’ whatever fucking cheats like Gordon are selling.
If you can’t see them for the corrupt cunts they are then there’s no hope for you.

4 goals in last 24 appearances hope that helps.

The final whistle when they were counter attacking 3 on 3 kind of made me go easy on the ref. Home advantage at St James is kind of given. We win the game literally if not for that GK error.

One other comment is the control was missing. So many misplaced passes, and also a lack of composure we are not used to under Slot.

There was a stage there where it was so helter-skelter. It was crying out for Endo to come in and get some control in the middle.

Slot has shown he makes good changes to affect the game, but that was a miss.

I’m sure it’s all part of getting to grips with the league, the opponents, his squad and the refs. I’ve no concerns but Slot could have done better there too, I thought.

Do you want the equivalent stats for Firmino in his bad runs too?

It is good to think that was an anomaly tonight and not the norm… Three very tough games in a week… With a manager that has not been steering the ship for 6months yet - We are in a good place… we can still afford to hit a blip and lose, and still be topping the table - I for one would have taken that back in August

:joy: you love an argument. Good luck convincing anyone that Darwin is (or will be) comparable to Mane or Bobby

Why? Quite shite refereeing given how much time was spent dead during added time alone.

Or if the penalty had been given for the foul on Diaz, in which case the error would barely be spoken about half as much?

Just huge ones the 2 at Arsenal last year the 2 against City in the 4 - 1 drubbing the one against Wolves in the cup the one against Real which started tge come back in the 5-2 the error against Leicester in 2018 but yeah he doesn’t do costly errors.

I don’t think that was a pen. Must have been a free kick.

Firmino was known as a False 9. Nunez isnt.

That matches Firmino’s output from 2022-23, and he had 8 assists last season, which is fair enough. It’d be easier for me to take with Nunez it wasn’t for 0 in the last 8 when we needed him (and only 1 assist at OT during that time), which is not good enough when your team is vying for the Premier League and depending on you for output. The winner against Notts Forest in early March was great, but that was pretty much it for the rest of the season (the deflection for 1-0 against SHU was his only other goal).

I was willing to give him another chance this year, but haven’t seen anything that indicates he is improving or changing. He may still come good, and he’s got a few years left on his contract, but I am not convinced. In fact, I’m less confident now than I was at the start of the season.

With that kind of leverage he’d be starting every game…

Imagine thats your take home thought after that match. The only thing to comment on is Robbie Fowler, paid by the TV making an uncontroversial comment about Slot.
Brilliant.

Maybe Slot was commenting to the ref on the amount of fouls Newcastle were getting away with? Maybe he couldn’t understand the inequity of yellow cards.
