Just brilliant. What an incredible win. Nunez with a couple of quality finishes. Salah nice assist.
The whole circumstance of the victory will put down an invaluable marker for mentality monsters 2.0 to emerge, and it will help take us far, along with the quality we have.

The incidents?

Gordon fouled Trent by pushing him off the pitch, forcefully. It was an absolute joke that the ref booked Trent. It was awful beyond belief. The Trent foul on Gordon that was shoulder to shoulder was very minor indeed, barely a foul, and for Howe to call for a red card for that is so wide of the mark it’s unreal.

The Van Dijk red? Harsh. At first viewing it looked like he won the ball cleanly. After multiple replays and angles, there was slight contact with the player to go with the bigger contact with the ball. The player milked it for all it was worth, and at that point, it might have seen Virg get a yellow, although those sort of challenges are allowed all the time in the game.

A red card was a complete joke, and harsh in the extreme.

Joelinton kept fouling all game, and generally their whole team left their foot in. If you played the game you know what I mean by that. It is snide, it hurts, but it comes with a sort of plausible deniability, as if butter wouldn’t melt, but they knew what they were doing.

Getting the win at the death like that was absolutely brilliant.

It’s possible that this might be a marker that helps us go from strength to strength, and we have an outside chance of a title challenge, and with another midfielder and defender, a fair chance at a title challenge, imo.

Shout out to Big Dom, again…for being a big dom……inating figure in our midfield, seriously unreal player.

Yeah, Darwin kicked the ball a fraction of a second after the whistle. Like the ones where a striker shoots as soon as he hears the whistle, so there is ambiguity wether it was part of going through with the motion.

The difference between Darwin’s kick/trent’s throw and the three or so times Newcastle did it (especially just before half time) was that Newcastle did it like classic Atletico where they kicked it purposely away from a Liverpool player but kinda in the direction of where the foul was. They played the ref smartly in the dark arts.

And you’re right abiut he free kicks. 45 seconds for two, and one of those was deep in their own half. They tried to slow the game in the 10 mins before half time, and the 5 mins after the restart,

With Henderson, Milner, and Fabinho gone, and a new midifled in place, a game like this is the perfect tonic for the new team to create their own stories.

Even though we were suspect in the first 30 minutes, the (sorry using Brendan’s word) character shown was perfect when a man down.

I assume that will be the only game Anthony Gordon turns out for…

You can take the boy out of Everton but you can’t take Everton out of the boy.

It is the terminology as in all likelihood he would be through on goal one v one with the keeper

It has to be a red, if he had been in the Area it is a penalty and a yellow, no double jeopardy, outside the area if he commits an offence that stops a goal scoring opportunity then it is a red card and should be a 1 match ban

Brilliant win , great character, but I am at a loss how people don’t see that as a red card offence, I would be livid if we didn’t get that, as I was when Kompany got away with a yellow, when it was a deffo red on Mo, in the season where we lost by a point

Remember some folks crying about missing out on mount

If you’re gonna borrow words from Brendan then also use the one he’s most known from:

The character shown when the team went one man down was outstandin’

Honestly have people watched Mount play or are they basing this on a few fleeting good matches he’s had for Chelsea?

Mount is bang average. Neither a forward nor a midfielder.

Just before Nunez scored our first I was thinking to myself that we had done well to keep it to 1-0 with 10 men, so I had reached acceptance of a loss but keeping it tight, so to take 3 points from there is exceptional and the kind of victory that can get a team firing on all cylinders. Just a truly gritty and determined performance from everyone yesterday, and I don’t want to give a vote to anyone because I thought they all deserved it equally.

Alisson is the only reason we haven’t conceded more. The ease with which we offer big chances, is alarming and nothing has changed in this regard since last season.

Not only we are poor at the defensive phase, we regularly make stupid mental mistakes with the worst culprits being TAA and Van Dijk. The latter has become for more than a year a complacent and sometimes downright lazy defender who regularly makes the wrong choice. Case in point his needless challenge yesterday. Add to that the fact that Konate will certainly miss a number of games and that Matip and Gomez have fallen off a cliff and it’s clear as day that this defence is going to be a hindrance all season long.

We need more bodies, more competition and better coaching at the back.

The classic DOGSO is a man bearing down on goal with just the keeper to beat and then gets tripped from behind with no other covering defenders (and is close to goal).

This one was Isak with the ball direction going ever so slightly away from goal and VVD in a good position to make it difficult. I put in the category of some refs would give yellow and some would give red.

We many times seem to have refs with a double-sided coin in these situations. Anyway, VVD was rash in his decision making. In hindsight, he would’ve shepherded Isak further away goal.

Oh, and remember this from 2018. A DOGSO if ever there was one, expect as it was Mo, nothing to see here. Play on. Check from 2:30
