I’ve watched Virg’s tackle countless times and still fail to see actual contact with any intent other than winning the ball. Terrible decision.

Was mistimed but not ill-intendrd

Wasn’t cynical

Very minimal contact and the player made the most of it.

Outside of the box and not a clear goal scoring opportunity. If VVD had stuck with him he would have forced him into a non shot taking position. And Alli would have covered for the early shot off his weaker foot.
The momentum alone from isak takes him beyond the goal when he controls the ball
All in all. It’s a shit decision by the referee to give that as a red card.
At the risk of being called ‘blinkered’, I didn’t think it was a foul either.
This is the grey area for me. How do you define being denied a clear goalscoring opportunity?
If Salah beats his man on the angle of the penalty area and is then fouled then he has been denied a goalscoring opportunity given the number of goals he has scored from that sort of position.
Is the opposition player going to get a red card? Is he fuck, Salah will be lucky to get as much as a free-kick.
The decision yesterday was a joke. Watching football for years you get a sense of what is a red card or what might possibly be one and that yesterday was pretty much like the McAllister one last week…it never entered my head it might be one until the ref showed it.
Yes, Shearer said it was definitely a foul by Gordon so the ref got that wrong. He also said the ref was right to show Trent the yellow card. I think he said that Trent should have had a second yellow for the foul on Gordon.
Micah said he initially thought VVD shouldnt have seen red but after re watching it, agreed with it. Said it was partly Robertson’s fault for not moving across, leaving VVD to delay his move across Isak as he had to pick up two players.
Oh come on. .
Fabulous win …live in the memory that one.
It’s taken me over twelve hours to work out what
DOGSO means. Is it an animal charity maybe?
From the angle shown on the TV coverage it looked like there was no contact. On the German TV coverage they showed another angle and you can see that he clips the players leg first. It wasn’t even a remotely cardable foul - it’s the denial of goal scoring opportunity that the red card hangs on.
Same here , quick Google check confirms it’s an American “soccer” term…
Wish they would keep their jargon that side of the Atlantic.
Agree but it’s stupid for Trent to do that because fair or not, he is on a yellow just seconds ago, don’t do that to make it easy for the ref to just flash a 2nd one
The fucking Bonesaws and their manager pleading for cards all afternoon. Bunch of fannies.
We must not lose sight of this. It’s not sustainable to play in this manner and produce positive results.
Something playing on Trent’s mind early in matches. Normally his touch is never so loose. Maybe play around for a bit before giving him the sole responsibility to link defence and midfield? Ideally also have Wataru dropping in to pick up the ball. Trent is a target right now.
Having a single point of failure between your defence and your midfield is far from ideal
Reminds me of the run we were in before we lost to West Ham away in the cup double season
Yup. Can’t deny that. If it wasn’t given for us we would be up in arms!
Ouch! I was trying to think of something witty related to that. The ‘dismemberers’ didn’t quite have the right ring to it.
Damn I feel like Big Don has been covering a lot of ground the past 3 games. Hopefully he doesn’t start to get fatigue towards the back end of the season. Finally nice to see someone repping that #8 jersey properly!
The issue is that when looking at decisions you don’t seem to be able to seperate what is and isnt a foul and then how that law applies to the foul.
Isak is fouled by Virg as he is about to let the ball run across his body and move towards the goal with the ball and therefore create obvious goalscoring opportunity, and the laws state that if the before applies then it is red card offence.
I did use an example of when Kompany brought Mo down just inside their half when he would have been clear through and only got a yellow when it should have been red, however, 2 wrongs don’t make a right.
He gives is all love his attitude and along with his skill, he is going to a firm crowd favourite
We Americans say DOGSO all the time, i totally knew what it was, say it all the time.
I think it’s actually young people, the internet, laziness, cell phones, and text messages, and crappy internet forums that helped birth this one, I’m not sure Americans have anything to do with it.
Yeah, it’s a bizarre one. When I saw it I couldn’t believe it was a red, or even a foul initially. So much so I’m still not convinced either way in my head. Technically I suppose it was but I can’t get rid of the nagging doubt to be honest.
What makes it worse I think is some of the challenges we see that aren’t given. The nature of the game means you’ll always end up with different things but when I compare this one in my mind with Pickford’s challenge against VvD or Kompany’s on Salah I’m just even more frustrated with it all.
When the player receiving the contact has a liverbird on their chest
