Post Match: Palace v Liverpool (Community Shield 10/8/25 3pm)

Maybe that’s the idea, to test it, you suggest it’s puzzling and maybe a directive maybe that’s the idea maybe Slot did see this as just another pre season match.

I thought the first half was chalk and cheese from the second so something happened.

we were a day later werent we?

as legitimate as your call is regarding mentality, if theres anything you can lose yourself in its a game of football and your job

again, back to my point though, the biggest concern is that we just couldnt retain possession when under the pump…simplistic view maybe, but fundamentally true…and that doesnt take absolute mental concentration or peak conditioning…

thats my first instinct…but then i look back to last season and i see it repeated over and over again…so i dont think its just a drill…

Problem is if we were so bad last season what were the other sides like? I think there is some ideal on how we should play and say if we blitz a half of football and then are bit meh but people get upset but I’m not sure it matters especially if you end up winning.

As bad as it may sound I couldn’t care less about this shield, every time we’ve won it we’ve looked garbage the season after in my life time anyhow. I sadly feel we will end up short in certain areas to have a successful season but no one’s set pre season alight.

Maybe we will improve, maybe Arne Slot is a fraud who isn’t actually a good manager. Who knows… I really don’t see how we are favourites with the obvious gaps.

I am going to suggest one player that help change it for Palace, Hughes, not the best but when he came on we were dominating and playing some great footy. He is a player that always ups his game against us and sets a higher tempo for Palace, he just gets amongst our players, legally or by hook or by crook.

yep, we won the league, and we were at times breathtaking…

the run home was far from convincing though and im trying to seperate out that discussion… it is a concern, whilst still being immensely happy and proud.

im hoping the conversation can stay on track becuase yes, it can appear to be whinging when youve just won the league…

after the first twenty odd minutes against Cyrstal Palace when we were just a joy to watch, the dynamic changed, then in the second half i was watching a very poor LFC performance, with my biggest concern being giving the ball away consistently…

we scored 2 in 20 minutes then just switched off… odd.

Exactly this. A win is always nice, but it looked to me as though they really wanted it, as evidenced by their fans giving it biftas the whole game.

We got a few things we needed - a game to start to bed in the newbies, some good understanding emerging between Ekitike and Wirtz, and solid debuts from the fullbacks. Even on that point, it showed us what we need to work on, as the defence was not a tight unit and that will need to improve.

We didn’t want to lose, but we have bigger fish to fry. Mind you, the penalty shootout was deeply unimpressive from us.

Paris game did seem to knock us for 6 if truth be told, then again to me they were the only team who came close to us up to that point and maybe that’s it.

Oh and by the way… that Penalty shootout… if I there is one thing I could less about a result in this shield is that it’s lost on pens.

Go back to sharing it.

I get the idea but it would have more weight of Slot hadn’t bigged up the game as a ‘chance to win a trophy.’. Although perhaps Arne is a ‘4D Chess player’ (guess he’s been learning from Howe) and you have to be careful taking anything he says publicly at face value.
