Years ago, I gave someone on here my opinion that the psychologist who could guarantee an athlete deliver every single time a mental performance in line with their physical attributes would be a billionaire.

Stand by that.

We are so mentally diabolical at the moment it is equal parts scary as to how bad it is, and fascinating as to how the malaise went so deep so quickly.

It is quite the pickle the club finds itself in.

I still cannot accept that this cannot be turned around fairly quickly, just obviously not with Slot.

A couple of new players (the right ones) will always help, but I am certain our squad is better than the performances it is putting out there.

You’ve had some doozies with your posting this season but this is taking the mickey to the point where I feel you’re actively trolling the majority of us. If you’re thinking that was the right approach for a team that is expensively put together and was widely regarded as one of the most feared teams in Europe not all that long ago then you’ve lost the plot. Damage control with 3 shot all game and none on target??

You have this passive aggressive β€˜I would sack him but FSG aren’t’ or β€˜its a hobby so I don’t care, tra la la la la and neither should anyone’. What the hell is the matter with you?? People are obviously going to be worked up by this result and performance and here you are spouting this nonsense. Chemical Ali would be proud of this spin, fuck me. It’s hard to see you being on anything other than a wind up of your own.

Ian Doyle - Liverpool Echo

β€œThere’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity. And Arne Slot chose the evening of arguably the biggest game of his Liverpool tenure to straddle such a divide.
If a feature of his debut campaign was the continued ability to make the right calls no matter what the scenario, this season has seen the Reds boss possess the polar opposite to that Midas touch.
So to throw his team into the proverbial fire at the Parc des Princes with a formation that hasn’t before been seen in his tenure was a significant and unexpected gamble.
For parts of the game, it seemed a sensible move. Certainly, Paris Saint-Germain appeared as bewildered as some of the Liverpool players during the opening stages when everyone was trying to work out exactly what was going on.
But that by the end the Reds were fortunate to escape with only a 2-0 defeat underlines the European champions eventually got to grips with the task in hand.
Slot’s decision to play three centre-backs – which, for the most part, meant Liverpool had five defenders and a sixth whenever Ryan Gravenberch or Alexis Mac Allister dropped deep – asked a lot of a team already grappling with a crisis in both confidence and quality.
Indeed, Ousmane Dembele’s miss in the second half evoked memories of his spurned chance that would have put Barcelona out of sight in the 2019 semi-final. We all know what happened next then.
Such a comeback, though, seems a world away from this suffering Liverpool side.

Frimpong had the entire right side to himself.

This PSG isn’t very good, but they’re a lot better than we are.

Pass the ball to Frimpong, please. He runs and he runs and he runs.

just had a bit of time to really think on this and yeah, it seems like a free hit, but everything is pointing to just not enough hard work being done.

lack of conditioning, lack of coherent game plans, let alone a plan B like we tried to impliment last night, common excuse of too much change, we are, however now 8 months in and thats enough time for this thing to be looking alot better.

maybe, we just litterally, dont want β€˜it’ more than anyone else

Some people have mentioned Mo, last season when he was bossing it Nuno Mendes had is number and with Mo’s total lack of defensive strength, no way should he have been on the pitch.

disappointment, disappointed, disappointing, but still want to be optimistic about our lads

I had a chat with a pal who is a Tranmere fan during the match. They are in dire straits at the moment. He was saying that part of the joy that he gets from of lower league football is that the general expectation is that the team isn’t going to win, but if they pull together, bust a gut, and have a bit of luck, they can scrape a win and there is real joy to be had in that.

At the moment, Tranmere are a mess, they can’t score and most games are just a case of waiting to concede the first goal. He accepts that their players are crap, but the inevitability of it is dispiriting.

It feels like that with us at the moment, except that we have a squad that most fans would sell internal organs to have.

For once, I’m not going to watch the return leg. It would cost me 45€ for a month’s subscription for what is most likely going to be one crap game. I hope we win. I would be delighted if we did. But realistically it’s a huge amount to pay out for what is likely a miserable experience.

The reaction to the approach would have been a lot better, had it actually made a difference. Instead, it served as a reminder as to how badly coached this team is. The only reason this didn’t end up in another humiliation was Dembele missing a couple of sitters. Playing 5 at the back didn’t make it more difficult for them, it just made us even more impotent upfront.

On another note, these pricks had a huge banner depicting a shredded Liverpool badge. How spineless do you have to be as a player to see that and still proceed to get dominated physically? The only ones who played hard were Kerkez and Gomez. No ego, no pride.

Mamardashvili is 6’3" and he was on his goal line. He needed to take a step back and then try to save it. He reacted slowly at a shot that was indeed deflected but very much savable. His save on Kvaratskhelia’s shot that was also deflected by Mac Allister was more difficult.

Every punter and most of the youtube pundits all agree he had no chance with it and that is my take on it plus he wasn’t on his line.

He absolutely wasn’t. Watch it again. If he had been, he would have saved it easily but he would have been wrong to have been rooted to his line. It was a very lucky goal with a wicked deflection and absolutely no blame on him.

I don’t want to watch it again, I’ll take your word for it.

It’s probably been mentioned already about our set up but can I say this. Liverpool does not park the bus. Stoke, Burnley or Everton do. I am gutted at what we are becoming.

2-0 down to the current holders and the best team in the world on their own patch is not the end of the world.

It gives us a chance. An early goal and a crowd that is up for it and it is definitely on…

I haven’t thrown in the towel…
