Good to see the mojo is back, only one game but the lads were a class act.
Pleased that TAA seems to be back, that goal will have done his confidence no harm at all.
The injury to Matip is an issue, which seems unlikely to be addressed.
But what the hell,Klopp knows what he is about…showed it again today.
Atkinson only saw what he wanted to see. Did not look at the big picture, only the handball. I can understand not giving handball against Dier as his arm was across his body but not giving a foul or " play on" against Dier for holding was criminal.
My huge concern remains though, Bobby plays well and we play well etc. He only lost the ball twice apparently in the final 3rd… The shift was astronomical, his ability to link the play by dropping deep was at his previous levels… Getting on the end of Manes cross again something hes been lacking recently.
We need to be able to win whilst he isn’t playing well, hopefully Jota is back soon to provide that.
Great to win again. Commentator said we dominated from first whistle but I remember thinking how bad we were for 10 minutes but them BOOM. we took control. We have gradually been improving over the las 2 games and last night were getting close to our best. Sadly the CB situation has taken another wrong turn . I can see Sepp Van Den Berg starting before the season is over at this rate.
To win we just need our forwards to put some of their chances away, whether Firmino is playing well or not we create enough chances.
The problem when Firmino is playing poorly is the pressure it ends up putting on our defense. Yet even with our depleted choices our defense in general, with Allison has been holding up well. The only time our defense had a bad day was against ManU in a cup game (That match was of the poorest quality I have seen this season and the 5 goals reflected that. (neutrals might have enjoyed it but for any poetry connesseursit was a horrible state of affairs).
I really didn’t get that one at all. At a stretch I see that it had to be disallowed for handball because he did get an advantage…but it looked to me that the Spurs lad was all over him and it hit his hand first, didn’t it?
For me…the correct decision is free kick to Liverpool for the first offence. Leaving out all the bias/conspiracy stuff what was the thinking behind that decision? Having disallowed the goal, I assume they can’t then give a free kick to us. Peter Walton said it had to be disallowed because of the handball and I see that but even the pundits were bemused by the free kick then going to Spurs even after looking at the screen.
My French commentators were discussing what would happen if the goal was dissallowed because of the hand ball and ended up deciding we would find out.
My guess is that they reel back to the incident that caused the goal to be dissallowed and they don’t (and by the rules i believe they shouldn’t go any further back) hence the decission. Being strangled and wrestled doesn’t make any difference if you have handled the ball after or during being molested.
It’s a strange one and particular to football where the circumstances just don’t count so the initial fault/faults don’t count.
In that case why was the goal we scored at Anfield against City allowed when Trent handled it in our area. Again it came off the opponents hand first but we went straight up the other end without a city player touching it and it was allowed. Same scenario?
That’s a different scenario where the ref arbitarially decides when a hand ball is influencial in the build up and ‘how much play is needed for that offense to no longer count’. All very complicated and far to complicated imo. It’s just rules that allow refs to make big fuck ups and/or stupid/bad and even deliberate mistakes.
EDIT; Oh! and don’t ask me.
That’s me saying hello to my Utd supporting neighbour.
Very good result with a few dodgy decisions. In regards to the handball. Why does it need VAR if the ref is running the game. How far back do we go. Will goals get chalked off because the bus driver isn’t parked close and parallel to the left hand curb. Or didn’t give way at a roundabout.
Can’t be, that doesn’t look like anywhere in Essex to me.
It’s the only nice street in Essex.
(I shouldn’t say that…I’ve literally never been there)
I have, it’s actually very nice, in parts. Spurs friend of mine lives there and I’ve not heard a peep from him this morning, I wonder why? I think I’ll send him a text.
That’s what technology was built for:
- To turn your phone off after a loss
- To hang shit on your mates after a win
First game I’ve enjoyed for weeks. It helped that some of our players who have been dogshit poor recently finally came good. We have missed the real TAA these last few games. He’s our main creative force and it makes a huge difference when’s he’s on it. Mane also despite the early miss was back to his unplayable best.
I’m always reassured when Milner and Henderson are on the pitch. We played with more intensity and focus. Everyone really up for it. Henderson was imperious at the back and Milner is a fucking colossus. How does he do it? Gini was also back in duracell bunny mode.
I can’t write about the CB situation any more without feeling the anger risiing and I need to watch the old ticker so all I will say is that I’m glad Nat Phillips got the nod over Williams last night. For all his obvious limitations he has more experience and nous. An old fashioned big-hearted clogger. If the fans were back he’d be the sort of player who’d quickly get cult hero status.
Edit - I don’t know why I’ve replied to SBYM’s post about Essex… Maybe it’s because I live there.
Why you walking about in your PJ’s…
God dam man, better than the alternative…
