Sorry, but I cannot believe you really think this is a reasonable counter argument. It is not last season anymore. The things that are effective or even appropriate to communicate are very different when a team is trying to pull itself out of an extended rut compared to when they are flying and everything is going well.
I think it is a reasonable counter argument when perspectives are so distorted literally anything the manager says would have people queuing up slag him off. Most of the reaction is nothing to do with what he said - it’s more to do with who he is.
Someone further up the thread suggested he should have just said Ibou is a quality player and leave it at that. I gaurantee you that had he done he would have been accused of being arrogant, burying his head in the sand, being surly etc.
People’s opinions are so entrenched now that everything he says is going to get the worst possible spin out on it.
And do we know Ibou is offended? Why are we taking offence on his behalf?
We do we take from Slots comments? If I’m in Ibou’s shoes I’m delighted that while most of the football world have been telling me I’m shit, here is my manager saying that it’s not about being shit, I’m a great player who has been unlucky in moments.
I don’t understand why he mentioned Ibou’s mistakes. But I wasn’t involved in a pile on either.
You’re trying to polarise views with this, some tilting at windmills that maybe don’t exist.
There is middle ground on the Slot in or out discussion, but you really don’t want to see it.
Any criticism is seen as part of the Slot out agenda.
Klopp got pelters occasionally for decisions, but no one was suggesting an agenda that wanted him sacked.
I think Slot spoke favorably about Ibou there. The problem, for me, is mostly cultural. He’s Dutch. And sometimes they just speak in a way that rubs people up the wrong way, even if they don’t mean it like that.
Having read both for many months, (and everyone else on here too) the difference between Mascot and Quicksand is minuscule, when it comes to the manager and what should happen to him.
Most on the forum are reasonable in their observations, and as the club is struggling this season, collectively we are just trying to navigate how to welcome fair criticism, and how to eschew unfair criticism.
