Post Match: West Ham - Liverpool (PL; 7/11/21)

Isn’t that what I’ve been trying to say?

(P.S I’m in a bad mood because I want to go on strike, government lying and fucking me over :rage:)

No. Declan Rice literally had the easiest job on the pitch today. His mates did all the heavy lifting which allowed him to play a janitorial role. As you say, a 5th or sometimes 6th defender.

I felt second hand embarrassment for him after the match carrying on like he had just won a cup final. Congrats Declan, you went one point above Liverpool on November 7th after matchday 11, with 27 yet to play. Maybe we can start a crowdfund for him to buy a plaque he can hang in his locker to commemorate the day.

Again, I have no earthly clue why he’s rated the way he is.

He is a good player. A good Eric Dier if you like. He interests me as he’s a good DM and can cover CB which I feel could be good for us.

Because he’s young and English.

That as well perhaps not that we care in France that he’s English.

Of course I’m still stinging we lost. It’s that old cliche, I hate losing more than I enjoy winning.

I watched the match back a second time and it was no real tactical masterclass by West Ham, it was no overcomplicated reason that we lost. That’s not me taking anything away from them or making excuses for our boys. They won and I say kudos to them. It was fairly basic really, their fight was a little bigger than our own on the day, their desire was just a little greater than our own. They wanted it more than we did and it showed. Well organized and everyone in their team did their job. Even with a few of our boys out of sorts we still had our chances, just didn’t take them. It’s really that simple. I would be much more concerned if we were completely run over. And we were not, in any way imaginable.

There will always be matches we come up a little short and this was one of them. Still miles and miles to go in this season.

It’s when Trent was drifting more into the middle. If there was as any “mistake” (and I’m using that term quite loosely) it was my own perception JK wasn’t clearly communicating his expectations for the backline. When Trent was moving into central positions it made our backline look out of sorts when WH countered.

EDIT: I will never shade one of our boys but even after watching the match a second time around, I still have no idea what Ox’s instructions were. Look at my posting history, I adore him, but I have no idea what his job was in this match.

It coincided with Fabs pushing up higher and Matip forraging upfield a lot for some unknown reason (VVD was doing the same) they were often both far into WH territory. Looked mad to me.

@cynicaloldgit I got up for this one after just 3 hours of sleep, so I’m trying very hard to keep a brave face over it as I’ll be working tonight. There’s far too many here trying to put a real big downer on it. Come on it was just a few catastrophic errors!

the standard of EPL referees are inconsistent, clueless, bog–shite and at a very, very low level that, they would be not even considered to referee a game of football between schools in any other country as a guest referee

Our defending from set pieces is a concern, especially when it was a strength during our title winning season. The other major concern is, in too many games this season we have not been able to just seize control and finish off games. Sloppy misplaced passing, lethargy, and for some reason a lack of concentration has been a common theme in certain games this season. I dont know if thats because of the inconsistencies in options in midfield or maybe a over reliance on Salah’s early season red hot form. Either way we will have to see if we can respond to this defeat. Its too early to panic, but we would be in denial if we didnt recognize the problems we have currently.

When we benefit from opposition errors is it us putting pressure on them to cause the errors (and outplaying them) or is it just the opposition fucking up? They pressured us, showed more energy and wanted it more than us, and for most I would suggest that means we were outplayed.

Nope, a dope is a dope!
We tend to force through.
I’m glad it’s just a suggestion as it’s wrong.

I would almost class them as a slightly more cultured Tony Pulis WBA with a bit better skills and tactics. They played with more desire today and reaped the rewards.

West Ham didn’t outplay us.
I was in with the West Ham fans and they were all saying at 1-0 that Lfc have dominated, we are too deep and it’s a matter of time before Lfc level. They were shit scared of us. (The fans)
The 2nd half was a bit more even but if Mane puts away that chance at start of 2nd half it’s a different story.
Ou front 3 were really quiet yesterday and we missed Bobby who would’ve caused issues for them, when they sitting deep.
Then out of nowhere West Ham score a 2nd and from then on we have a shocking 5 mins where they score again and have another 1 on 1 and Alisson did save it not that it mattered as offside.

I see Arsenal fans are happy as now it’s another season where a team can’t go unbeaten…I mean, who is even thinking about that after 12 games?

For me we just look a little bit stale. We need a shake up and the middle is really thin at the moment.
I’ve been hugely disappointed with Keita since he got here but on current form we missed him yesterday.
Thiago is showing exactly why FSG don’t want to buy that type of player. No doubting his albilty but I don’t think he either suits us or will ever get used to the pace of the Prem. CL is where he should be better.
He came on yesterday and 2 of his first 4 passes he gave away. He was so predictable and slowed us down even more.
Ox worked hard but the front 3 didn’t offer much yesterday for him.
Was really surprised Tsmiskas didn’t start as unfortunately for us Robbo saw most of the ball and didn’t do 1 thing with it. He is out of form at the moment and needs a spell on the side.

Annoying if Alisson didn’t have a shocker we get at least a point but unfortunately he was doing his Mingolet impression yesterday.

Our high line is suicidal against the counter attack teams.

It’s not just this, we appear to now have Henderson further forward on the right with Trent more central.

It means we basically have no one at fullback or midfield to drop so are wide open on that side. Matip has two players most of the time, this then forces Van Dijk to come over and Robbo is miles ahead and they always have a free man.

I get it is offensively good but some practicality would be nice. Didn’t help Trent was jogging back on more than one occasion.

Cold light of day…

Cresswell should have been red carded.
But overall Liverpool were poor in most departments and West Ham were just a bit better.

Regarding the comments on Tsimikas feeling aggrieved for not starting?
Robertson is our first choice left back, and in fairness he has rarely let us down. Poor form last couple of games but Klopp knows him and is probably giving him time to get up to speed.

Dropping out of form players doesn’t always make sense.
Origi has two goals in two appearances.
Salah has no goals in three.
By the wisdom of some Origi should start ahead of Salah against Arsenal.
How ridiculous that sound?

Tsimikas has had a couple of good games, but he isn’t quite at Robbo’s level just yet.

Also, we didn’t lose the league just yet, there is a sense of panic but we are four points off the top, not ten. There are better moments to come, and to be honest AFCON is a massive concern, but I have faith in Klopp and his ability to bring us to where we want to be.

Could not win our last 3 games before international breaks.

Best feeling in the world for the next 12 days - not :face_vomiting:

Gonna sneak into the FA over the summer and insert ‘…irrespective of whether or not the tacking player touches the ball…’ somewhere in the rules.

Would save a whole lot of drivel.
