Post match: West Ham v Liverpool (EPL 30/11/25 14.05pm)

I thought VVD and particularly Konaté were z lot more pragmatic. They didn’t let the pressure build just putting the ball out. This is much better as it allows us to regroup and win the ball back further up the pitch. More important is it results in a more organised defence.
I’ve been calling for this for a long time. Under Slot it’s even more important as our midfield looks do disorganised when we defend, transition and have been incapable of picking up opposition runners.
I hope we continue this and wren of it as/if we become more competent in this area.
Buying that time is so important and as it is this is the only way we have found to do it due to our shape and players we have.

He has still been found with early balls but now lacks the pace to run away from defenders or go past them.

Also, playing Szob there helps us tremendously defensively

The standard of the officials this season in particular is fucking shocking. This is meant to be the best league in the world, so why are the refs so bad? The levels of bias against us is unreal and obvious, but in general the standard is sooo fucking bad!! Yesterday was no different.

My West Ham supporting mate agrees with you about the ref.

The referee blew every time your players got tackled.

And the question remains why do Liverpool keep getting the same small group of referees over and over again?
Attwell again on Wednesday. Only 7 different refs in 14 PL games so far. 6 of them have plenty of previous in fucking us over. Only Madley, who we’ve had just once, seems to ref us reasonably fairly.
No other club gets the same refs over and over like we do. It’s a complete anomaly.

Did he mention how Wilson got away without a booking despite a blatant stamp in the 1st minute and flailing an arm into VVD’s throat?

I wasn’t personally aware of those ref stats. Howard Webb say’s he speaks to the clubs every year before the season and every club tells him they get less of the 5050 calls in almost every game - which obviously can’t be true! In our case we don’t even get the 100/0 ones at times. It’s a fucking joke!

Because he gave him a hug after

The officiating is awful but I still think our players are far too nice. No one protests that elbow or numerous other fouls. Ali and others were trying their best to stop Paqueta getting a red. Every other team are rolling around trying to get opposition sent off.

Salah gets fouled multiple times per game and none of his teammates seem to say or do anything

Tackled I think he meant foul.

He blew a lot but they were all fouls bar one.

Is this true? I’d be interested to see how many refs Arsenal, Cheaty and Chelsea have had so far, and also last season in comparison with us.

Hendo’s departure hurts us in that regard. With this narrow-minded/incompetent/biased set of refs, nothing better than an English captain in the middle of the pitch, who will shout in the ref’s ear all game long.

Regarding Salah, you’ll say that he has never been protected enough, but the situation is worse now. VVD isn’t that type of captain.

Yeah I thought that tackle at the start of the game was the worst of the lot. Luckily the game didn’t descend into hacking which it might have had a team like everton seen they could get away without a card for that first minute gravenberch tackle.

Yeah the treatment of Mo from refs is appalling. Sadly it contributes to my opinion that he just shouldn’t be playing as his remaining strengths can be too easily nullified by fouling him without risk

Hendo was on the pitch when this was overlooked, and saw Klopp get a red for his reaction.

His presence hardly saw us get the treatment we deserved from the refs so Im not sure we can say we’re missing it in that specific regard.

Yes I noticed that on motd Isak could have scored another 3 or 4 goals if Joe had taken fewer touches before picking him out .

I just realise now that Konate was less nervous with GOMEZ AT RB and subsequently Virgil was more relax next to Konate. We have to carry on being cautious at the back then all the areas below that are their usual selves.

I reckon Konate wouldn’t have been nervous with me beside him. West Ham were probably the worst team we have played all season. It was a stroll for our defence. Apart from the late chance for Bowen, they barely presented any threat.

I agree that West Ham were poor. What I’m not fully sure about is how much of that was down to them, or us. Obviously they have struggled most of the season, so a good part is on them, but as we saw last week, a struggling Forest side beat us handsomely.

So the changes we made must also get some of the credit.

Gomez helped it to look a lot more solid. Overlapping fullbacks and Dom and Gakpo tucking in a bit made it more compact. Wirtz ran the show and Isak got off the mark. Far from perfect, and West Ham obviously obliged, but we also did some things better.
