Pre and In Match | Liverpool vs Newcastle | PL Match Day 5 | Wednesday August 31st 20:00 | Anfield

Football is leisure activity. I watch for fun, so I don’t bring a defeatist attitude to it!

There’s an old adage: only worry about the things you can control.

We cannot control the fact that City are allowed to break spending rules with impunity and get favourable decisions from the officials.

We cannot control the fact that anything and everything even close will be given against us (eg Rashford’s offside and Virgil’s penalty) and that our opponents can wrestle our players to the floor at will.

Just accept that, even though we are every bit as good as City are, these differences mean that they will win the league again and we will finish second.

Anything more than that is a bonus.

I agree with most of that.
But its within the control of someone.
And because of that the best Liverpool side in decades will come up short in trophies when history is written.

And that in my view is a tragedy.

We could not beat Chelsea either so no win against a T4 club. Cheaty had a bad start and we had a good one last season and we could not overcome them, I see no reason how we will be able to finish above them it this season.

In fact let’s see if we can reach T4, Arsenal seems to do rather well too so it is 5 perhaps 6 teams fighting for that T4 bone.

In fact just concentrate on the next game. Not what happened weeks before or what will happen weeks ahead. And completely ignore what anyone else is up to whilst the match is on. It’s far more enjoyable that way.

I will enjoy today: with a pint and the mates at the Pub.

Next game, repeat process.

I prefer Walt’s line:

“Why worry? If you’ve done your best. there’s nothing to worry about!”

I genuinely don’t see who’s meant to be displacing us from a top 4 spot?

I can’t control anything about LFC, but I worry about them endlessly.

I don’t think there will ever be a time where everything becomes a fair play and we can enjoy football in its pure form. There’ll be Newcastle who may end up like city, there’ll be refs who may favor a London club instead of a Manchester one, etc etc. who knows.

While it’s disappointing to see one of the greatest side, with one of the greatest managers having to fight against all this and them and us fans deserving much more than we’re getting in terms of rewards for our performances, we should still allow ourselves to enjoy this golden period. We’re doing things the right way and I am okay as long as we give our best but end up short because of the lack of governance and loopholes that has allowed the likes of city to compete unfairly.

Let’s thrash these lot and put the points on the board and see where it takes us. One game at a time!

All being said we haven’t really deserved more than the 5pts we got, yes we could have got more but the performances haven’t been good enough for long enough bar Saturday.

Ah we have.
We deserved a point vs United, poor as we were. Without the offside goal we were on top and may have took 3 points. But we at least merited a draw from an awful performance.

So the giant Isak plays tonight. Just pleased Maximin is not with him. Newcastle look to be building, err buying, a very strong squad

That’s not deserved that’s circumstance if we had played for more than 30 mins we would have beaten Man Utd, Beaten Fulham and Beaten Palace.

Flip side if we had decided to ease up on Bournemouth at 2-0 who knows what would have happened with the way we defended 2-0’s last season.

It could easily have been enough that’s true, would have it been deserved not really. Our performances got what they deserved and I wouldn’t have said that even in that dismal run a few years back.

Yes if the soft pen isn’t given we get a win, if the offside hadn’t been given onside we might draw but we were so poor does it even lead to us improving in that game?

Ball hits Martinez a few inches down his arm it’s a pen but again it wouldn’t be deserved. But I’ve said this when we were mentality monsters sometimes we didn’t deserve but we got the win. Sometimes we’ve deserved it and been fucked over.

On this occasion I completely disagree with the shit decision but would draw or a win be deserved not really? We didn’t do enough and create enough to win.

Take Bournemouth if they had lost 9-1 due to a goal being given from a shit decision then so be it. But it doesn’t matter because the result is beyond them anyhow and 54 mins and 70 odd mins are not early enough to shape games.
