Pre- and In-Match Thread - Everton vs Liverpool - 24th April, 20:00

A lot better since the goal.

Calvert Lewin is playing a lone striker keeps coming to the ball to flick it on and we follow him and commit fouls trying to challenge him, where all that needs to be done is drop off and pick up the flick on, you don’t always have to compete for the ball when he has no support.

Also, on the defensive side we don’t have to win every ball, be patient and then pressure to win the ball, sticking a foot out at times is lazy and they are getting cheap freekicks, especially with THEIR ref giving them everything.

Last 15 mins we started to play passing through them rather than around them.

We’ll win this

Darwin with the gilt edged chance. He opted for power, though if he kept it down, would’ve still made it difficult for Pickford. By balsting it slightly higher, made it easier to just be in the way.

Diaz chance was, Imo, well taken, and another day would’ve been slightly more the other way towards the goal. Last 20 minutes was much better.

But that’s because after the goal, the started to ignore the Everton players that went down easily. THe opening goal was a soft free kick, followed by one of those ping pong play before the goal.

Early on, VAR offside saved a penalty. Everton playing ball down the channels casued problems on teh break, till we corrected that in the latter part of the first half.

If Everton don’t score again, I think we must win. We can’t miss that many chances again…but then I didn’t see the Palace game.

It is a derby and we haven’t come out in the right frame of mind for the tempo… No excuse for the misses. Nunez hits the ball as though he never wants to see it again…!! Needs to redeem himself in the second half

Honestly, the only thing worse than the ref is our finishing and lack of ideas. I think Dom is not effective here, not that he is terrible but does not seem to work so far. I would put Endo in and let Mac play in his best position, further up. As for the attacking players, not sure what else needs saying, two clear chances, shot exactly the same at shorthand Jordan, in the process making him look like world class.

coote as assistant ref… you can see there is no love lost between him and klopp hahaha

Will always love Nunez but he needs to fucking score.

So does Diaz.

Mo’s was a terrible miss but it’s not a guilt edge chance.

It’s not funny anymore.

I’d keep the same team for 15 minutes in the second. We’ve played much better in the last 15. Dom needs to come a bit deper though. Too isolated from the other midfielders.

come on you Reds.

I know we’re in the thick of it right now, but we have to believe in our players no matter what the damage.

this is hard to watch but we need to support. otherwise we’re just resigning to failure.

I know, but he didn’t need power he needed to assess the situation, think and then pick the far corner, plus all forwards are taught to hit the far corner

get danns on for nunez he cant do any worse

I would disagree we need runners in behind or in the half spaces as we don’t want all our player just playing in front of them

Danns isn’t going to offer the movement Nunez does and he’s gonna be easier for Everton to mark out the game.

I’d hook Jones and move Diaz to midfield.

Harvey in right midfield would work better imo. Dom hasn’t linked up with Mo at all.

Coote is on VAR, it’s Simon Hooper the assistant.

You can tell it’s Coote on var because it still takes 20 minutes to draw the lines when a player is 10 yards offside.

I thought it was Arne Slot, and Klopp was briefing him all first half on the players he will inherit!

We’re afraid?

ahh… cheers

We’re a bit jittery

Agreed, and I really hope he becomes a composed player who easily finishes chances like that.
