Lose here and I genuinely think we’d be in danger of not even getting through to the KO stage. Aways at Inter and Marseilles and a home game v Madrid, on current form we could easily lose the lot. Last season 11 points were needed.
Anything could happen here. That includes Slot’s team selection, tactics and substitutions.
I’d like to see a diamond with Wirtz behind Chiesa and Ekiteke. And give Joe Gomez a game ffs, anywhere across the back will do the way everyone else is playing.
Do we even know yet who Slot is taking to Frankfurt? We shouldn’t forget that Slot didn’t actually want Chiesa in the cl-squad, and who knows… maybe he’ll have to stay at home again.
Just saying
Edit
I think we should wait and see who is actually on the plane.
I expect he travels, we will have the list tomorrow once they fly out.
Pressure mounting on Arne, i hope hes learned a couple of things from utd defeat. Hopefully we dont see mo starting amd we play 442
It’s probably his biggest test.
Mamardashvilli- Frimpong Ibou VVD Robbo - Grav Dom Wirtz - Chiesa Ekitike Gakpo
I’ll go with this. I still don’t think Isak is sharp enough. Chiesa deserves a start based on his appearances this season. Gakpo missed a few chances, but he’s still providing an outlet.
We need to sort our defense on priority. Lot of our problems seem to be coming from us not being able to do basic defending leading to complete team shy of the ball and scared to try playing through the midfield. Need to build confidence and few clean sheets would he a good base to build that.
The forum will explode when he isn’t on the plane again.
Frimpong Ibou VvD Robbo
Dom Grav Jones
Wirtz
Isak Hugo
If he has to leave anyone at home it will be Chiesa. He didnt want him the CL squad in the first place.
Would love to see this…but it wont happen.
Mama
Frimpong Konate Virgil Robbo
Jones Grav Szobo
Chiesa Rio
Ekitike
Rio would be a big call to be fair, but sooner or later he will get his chance. Can’t be any worse than Mo currently.
I’m sure that Arne and his team will know the personnel, formation and tactics to see us through this game. COYR YNWA
After the last four games, I hope to god you are right!
If he does I think he’ll start losing a large portion of the fanbase and I think he knows that.
Getting 4 goals from a very bad Möchengladbach side after being up 6-0 certainly was special…Goalkeeper is error prone, as is the defence. Some lovely young talent like Ozun and Bahoya need to be watched out for, as are Burkardt’s runs, but fricking hell, we should be miles better. In theory that is.
I really don’t get the Chiesa love in. I appreciate his industry and tenacity, but his second touch is invariably a tackle.
He is fine to come off the bench.
I’m unconvinced by him as well but I’d like to see him start at this point. And if he doesn’t perform, it’ll take some of the heat away from Slot for not picking him.
It’s a reaction to seeing lazy players like Gakpo, Isak and Salah playing as a 3. We can’t carry 3 players who are only interested when the ball is in the final 3rd of the pitch.
Also, his touch might be poor, but he is quite clever and decisive in the box. Has shown some good quality in his few minutes this season.
I also think the general love for Chiesa is higher than how good he is. His approach on the pitch was always like this, even when he was at his best (which I don’t think he is anymore). He gives his absolute all. Natural enthusiast. Then we have his song. But I bet if he’d start 10 games in a row, a lot of the love might disappear and then it would be onto someone else. Like “where’s Endo, he needs to play more!”. But I also think he actually deserved a bit more game time in some moments last season and especially this season.
A good performance and avoiding defeat will do for me at this point. I just want to see some positive shoots of cohesion in our game, but given the form of both of sides, who knows what we’ll see tomorrow. It wouldn’t surprise me if we absolutely demolished them, nor would it surprise me if they battered us.
