Just like Salah at the moment.
We haven’t really been battered by any of the teams who have beat us, Palace for 30 minutes were on us but equally we were back on them in the second.
That’s true. It’s where our confidence is at the moment. If the players believe in what they’re doing, and have the confidence to express that, then it should be okay, but if not, it may allow Frankfurt to assert some dominance and smell blood.
We need to get ahead… Our issue is falling behind as we start to chase, gifting teams that lead is hurting us.
Looks like Grav is missing plus I think Hugo has lost his highlights in his hair…
As long as Chiesa doesn’t get more playing time, we’ll probably never know how good he really is, as he’s obviously lacking rhythm and there are obviously no established routines, etc. Everything else is just the same old speculation and “opinions,” and therefore not very convincing. I don’t read that anymore, tbh.
Edit
However, since there are now so many positive statistics for his short appearances, I think he more than deserves longer and more regular appearances. Then we’ll know more, especially since the so-called “regulars” aren’t really convincing at the moment.
Hopefully, it won’t have the same impact on his athletic performance as Samson.
Curtis Jones has to start. He’d be well within his rights to be knocking Slot’s door and asking what the hell he has to do to get into the team, when Macca has been like a man down
Don’t want to necessarily turn this into a squad depth issue but we’re also seeing how light we are in midfield when one player is completely off form/unfit.
Endo not trusted to start a PL/CL game.
Nyoni added to senior squad but nowhere to be found.
Wirtz I don’t think has the discipline or awareness to play in a midfield 3 like Szobo can. He played in a front 3 for Leverkusen and plays on the left for Germany.
Then all we’re really left with is Grav/Szobo and Jones.
At this point I have no idea what it up with Mac but what I do know is he can’t be relied upon until he’s 100%, it’s been 6-7 months and he still doesn’t look right, Jones has looked decent in his cameos but I think that’s more on how shit Mac has been lately, besides we all know what happens when he starts a run of games, he’s had enough chances in a Liverpool shirt and has never looked more than decent.
Mac’s peak at Liverpool so far was the second part of last season, when we had games to seal the title. He was brilliant then.
He’s not 100%, but hopefully he will get there soon. He’s very important to us, but he doesn’t have to start and play all the time. We will not put him in the freezer either before he comes back to 100%, obviously that will have to be accomplished through training and playing.
Endo lacks quality and style under Slot to offer anything more than being a happy enough backup when there’s emergency, lesser games or last minutes when we just have to close the game.
Seems like Jones will be starting as Grav is injured.
It gets better and better I see.
you had that one saved up didnt u hahahahah
I want a bit of a plan, some aggression.
I’m inclined to agree with what Rory Smith said on the Men in Blazers podcast. The team is stuck between two eras and styles of play and it isn’t serving anyone. Instead of trying to mesh the old with the new, Arne needs to commit.
The truth is, our undefeated start to the season probably caused some unrealistic expectations to form. But if Arne’s message at the beginning of the season was basically like “we’re a team in transition; it’ll take time for the players to settle in and figure things out, but we’re going to ride out the mistakes with the goal of being great in a few months from now,” I don’t think we’d see the level of angst we’re facing now (though, 4 losses in a row, even with 3 last gasp winners, would always cause concern for a club of this stature.) I think people would understand that this is a transition period, and judgments cannot be made for a few months.
In my view, Arne should just commit to the transition. Play Wirtz every time. Play Isak and Ekitike every time. Play Kerkez and Frimpong every time. Commit to a formation that gets all of your best players on the pitch instead of this haphazard, stop/start approach.
An idea:
Frimpong - Ibou - Virgil - Kerkez
Szobo - Grav
Salah - Wirtz
Ekitike - Isak
Let Kerkez and Frimpong bomb forward to give you support on the wings. That’s what they’re good at, anyway. They’re not great defenders. Let Szobo and Grav use their relentless energy to help provide cover.
Let Wirtz and Salah be the creative engines. Salah’s pace may not be the same, but he’s still an unbelievable passer and he can still crash the box when needed.
Have Ekitike serve as a false 9 with Isak.
Hopefully everything is okay. That’s got to be very annoying for the players.
A version of this was throughly destroyed by a PL opposition..Was it palace or the chavs?
The issue is that Mo’s second touch is 10 minutes later when someone passes him the ball.
