I know it’s been rumoured all summer, but wonderful how the Gomez stuff breaks an hour or so before kick-off.

I’m not sure that’s true. Gomez played CB a handful of times last season at most. I’d like another CB but I don’t think Gomez moves the needle on this if van den Berg stays.
Even if Gomez doesn’t play as a dedicated CB too often, He’s still going to be used to see off matches across the defensive line.
He might be the 5th choice CB (After VVD / Quansah / Konate / VDB) , but he’s there to see a lot of matches off. The ability to start in LB and then shift to a CB if we want to get a fresh LB on for example, That’s one example of the flexibility that Gomez offers.
But that said, I think Gomez needs to go. We should get a decent fee for him. But Injuries have done him in.
Hopefully we get a player in as a LB/CB. Inacio perhaps

Injuries have done him in? he had 51 appearances last season. He’s good enough to be a regular starter for any Prem club outside of us, City and Arsenal.

Last season was among 1 other season where he remained injury free during his time at Liverpool.
