You don’t normally think of it when debating him, but I thought Jones added a much needed athleticism and bite to the midfield once he came on. We started winning the ball in better areas and just generally playing at a higher tempo.
I think we look nervous in playing the ball into the midfielders feet at times in the 1st half of games and then Arne reinforces what he wants or makes a tweak at half time and we then start to play through teams more consistantly.
The fact that I think Schmeichel is 100% correct about anything frightens me…
MacAllister is clearly short of match fitness. Lucky to get an hour out of him at the moment.
He’s probably revealing he’s a boyhood Red
Does someone start the post match thread to this ?
He’s mentally scarred.
Don’t be shy.
I’ll probably keep all the poll options as Dom
Meh.
He’s nailed on to win it anyway.

FT: Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports: “If you win against a team like Arsenal, who last season were such a good team and have strengthened so much, to win against them is very positive. We will know at the end of the season what it’s worth.”
On what it took to win the match: “Listening to Jamie [Carragher]. He thought we were far too open against Bournemouth so we thought let’s make it a boring game. On a more serious note, they took the risk of going 1v1, this was hard because they brought all the midfielders so close to the defence. Then in the second half we went 1v1 but with Szoboszlai playing close and three midfielders. In the second half we pressed really well so for me after 45 minutes we got the upper hand. In the end we needed a moment of magic.”
On Dominik Szoboszlai: “Again. I’m only working with him now for a little more over a season but he shows what Liverpool is all about. If he has to play right wing, right full-back, as a 10, he gives his best. Again he was outstanding today.”
On what he’d say about the efforts so far: “Hard games we had to play unlike last season when we starting not against seasons who ended in the top 10. It’s a tougher start which you could also see in the game. Now we are on nine points which is positive but I’ve also reminded our players that last season we were on nine after three games but the fourth we lost against Forest.”
On how busy he expects tomorrow [deadline day] to be: “Quite busy because I have to take a flight at two o’clock! On a serious note, let’s wait and see. I haven’t spoken to [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] yet. I don’t think it’s a surprise we are trying to see if we can strengthen the squad but if that isn’t possible we are more than happy to do that with this team.”
On whether Ibrahima Konate injury makes getting a defender more urgent: “It’s not a way of asking it. I could only not take one player into the game so I had to leave one out and that was a centre back. I think we were quite well in terms of centre backs. I think it was only cramp so I don’t think it was an injury. We have to find out in the upcoming games.”
Unbelievable scenes on the Kop!
As I said last week, Szobo is first name on the team sheet. Any position he has to play. Arne agrees ![]()
I love that Arne likes doing the odd drive by on Carra
I respect the effort Wataro put into earning that yellow card.
Yeah, one job and you messed that up ![]()
I’ll say it again, Gyokeres was shit. After 3 games he’s looking exactly as predicted…big, strong, and can run so looks dangerous in certain situations, but just way off it in terms of ability to the degree he will look out of place at this level. That was what that weirdly anonymous performance today was.
There was one sequence where he ran the channel well and squared up to a physically inferior Ibou. He then tackled himself to kick it out for a throw in. It’s pub league stuff.
