I don’t think we’ll employ the diamond structure, but a 4-4-2 (with Ekitike perhaps more used as a second striker alongside Isak) is very much possible in that period when we’re without Mo. The likes of Szobo, Chiesa, Frimpong all being options for the RW spot. But still a long way to go until then, we’ll see player form and availability.
Think it’s possible especially if we get Frimpong and Kerkez upto the rigours of the league fit and firing. It’s not so much the formation anyway because those things do tend to be very fluid as the season goes on. But I can see Wirtz playing as a 10 behind Ekitike and Isak. Increasingly so as well.
We’ve seen slot playing the 4-2-2-2 before as well. So that’s there as well.
At this point , Liverpool’s strongest midfield is the pivot of grav , Mac and then Soboszlai as the 8-10 hybrid. Wirtz quite often drifts into those midfield and advanced midfield positions as well.
Didn’t think it this way but so much valid. Think we’ll start dismantling teams in first halves very soon. Don’t think it’ll be Everton though but would be very happy to be wrong on that
And I don’t mean to imply that we’ll play the diamond 4-1-2-1-2 formation.
It’s gonna be more of the double pivot of grav , Mac and Soboszlai a bit further.
It’s not too different from the standard Liverpool 4-3-3 except that Wirtz is more of a 10 than a false 9 that firmino was.
There is going to be more than one very unlucky team who’s going to be at the recieving end of a proper spanking.
Just hope it’s among City , Everton , United , Arsenal , Chelsea , Newcastle.
That’s what the attacking transition generally looks like anyway
And has to be said. Bournemouth not withstanding, other teams are not allowing Liverpool the space. They are playing a mid - low block. I see teams being much more adventurous against City. That’s partly because they know that we will tear them open if we get a slight chance.
Everton will be looking to jammy an early goal and then hit us on the counter.
I won’t be surprised if Szobo starts at RB
It will probably depend on whether Jones is fit enough to start in midfield, and if Frimpong is fit enough to start again. Either way, it will be a good line-up.
Of course, the argument can be made that Wirtz should start again in order to continue to upgrade his form, but he gave a lot against Atletico the other day, and could be a very impactful sub for the last 25 minutes if the game remains in the balance. We’ll see, it will be interesting to see how Slot lines up his team.
We need to do a count during the game…
How many times Grealish falls down unaided -
Vrs.
How many times Wirtz gets hacked down by thugs -
Everyone is fit? What wizardry is this??
Really hope we batter these.
I can’t think further than that.
Our last goal vs Everton was Diogo at his best, so I’m sure that memory is cemented in every players head in anticipation of tomorrow.
City and/or Arsenal drop points on Sunday…this could be magical.
Didn’t we lose one in 20/21? No fans, a pen against Alexander-Arnold. Sticks in there somewhere.
That’s both versions of offensive, lucky you a mod.
Have really grown to hate the derby these past few years. Gone are the days when we’d just spank them and they’d give up by half time.
Now they’re just out for a scrap and we always seem to get kicked from pillar to post with complete impunity for that bunch of thugs and come out the other side nursing a few knocks or worse.
Feel like if we were ever owed a late winner it should be this game after the Tarkowski nonsense last year but I’d really love a comfortable 2-0 for the first time in what feels like forever.
Actually more excited about the league cup game midweek when we’ll surely get to see Mamardashvili, Leoni, Nyoni, Ngumoha and maybe even Will Wright alongside that exciting young prospect in Waturo Endo.
Nope. Definitely not at anfield
I love how Frimmers has slotted (pun intended…do you even know me?!) into the squad and added to the camaraderie and brotherhood!
