I was hoping for Haaland, @Cynicaloldgit for Mbappe (both would be fantastic), but the truth is, we are no longer 1/3 as attractive as we were, and neither would be wise to move here at current, so unless we pay them a billion in wages, it won’t happen. That is the logical consequence of being a mid-table team unfortunately. We can’t attract those too unless we dramatically improve our situation and that’s just a cold and grim fact that we have to swallow, no matter how hairy.

Hope we don’t come to rue those missed chances.
This is really the only rational explanation for it. It’s so absolutely mind boggling at this point that we cannot find the back of the net.

All comes down to Champions League qualification for me. We can have the excuse of 1 iffy season with Covid no fans excuse but it’s champions league or bust for next season

as an Irishman who has watched a national team advance in many competitions with multiple 0-0 draws I feel that scoring in general is dramatically over-rated

Agree, but my point is that neither Mbappe nor Haaland would want to come here for next season. Not after this season. Perhaps in 2 years. But next summer, we won’t be able to attract the premier elite of finished articles. But hopefully, next season we will be in the Top 1-3, and then maybe !
