Correct, but he can’t play anywhere when Slot leaves him sitting on his backside, week after week. Even bringing on a midfielder to play right back before he’ll use Gomez.
Depends on the situation. If we’re chasing it, then I don’t mind it if it’s not Gomez. He could’ve been used a bit more, but then his quality is also questionable and his ability to stay fit. His time at this club will end soon. The sort of decision I didn’t like at all was that Szobo at RB and Frimpong at RW stupidity we did in Istanbul. Reminded me of the old shouts to play Kuyt at RB and Johnson at RW.

If Gomez can play, he should start. Same goes for Ramsay if Gomez is unavailable. The most probable scenario though and the one which is probably the least desirable among Liverpool fans is Szoboszlai at RB with Jones at midfield.

Given the frustrating injury news, three points, however they come, will be most welcome. I’d love to see Isak start to find some form and rhythm in a red shirt as his Liverpool career needs to lift off soon.

Did not expect that news about Wirtz and Bradley. Very frustrating. Sounds like Bradley will miss the next seven matches. Wirtz hopefully won’t be out for as long.
Slot mentioned that he can’t just throw Gomez in at RB because he’s played so little and they didn’t want to risk injury. And Frimpong won’t be back in the next three weeks, either.
So, I’m guessing Szobo moves to RB, and you have a Grav/Macca/Jones midfield.
Szobo to RB does address some of the balance issues at the back, but he’s been playing so well that it probably should be left alone and have a think instead about if Jones is fit enough or else look to Wata.
And Gomez’s played so little because he won’t rotate. Gomez’s lack of playing time is of his own making.

I’d give Ramsey a go, he was very good against Palace in the cup.

The injury record of Connor is such a shame! I think he is a talented full back but sadly it seems that he’ll end up being a sporadic player for a while who then ends up moving on and not fulfilling his potential, through no fault of his own. I hope I’m wrong, but sadly it’s not a good pattern he’s in. Frimpong being out too is less than ideal. Maybe get Trent back on loan in January.

I find that a confusing statement by Slot. Either Gomez is fit or he isn’t. Which is it? If he’s not fit, why is he on the bench every game? He’s always in the squad and yet Slot doesn’t want to play him in case he gets injured?? I can only surmise the club are trying to keep him injury free, so they can sell him in January. A strange way to use or not use a player.

It would be great if we felt he was performing well enough to contribute, but he’s played a shockingly small amount of football and we will be, rightly, very cautious about how much we use him. Meaning even if he gets a shot, it’s going to be as part of a group of players who offer a collective solution. We have 3 weeks and I think7 games before one of our RBs is likely to be back. If Ramsay can give us an 90 minutes of football overall in that time I’d be surprised
Yes a surprising small amount of games, but as I said, he was a rare positive in the Palace game so with a depleting of availability at RB, surely he deserves the opportunity, if fit along with Joe.
That just isnt how fitness works.

Just for the record, Slot didn’t say Gomez cannot start on Saturday, but just that he will not be the only option while the two RB’s are out. He didn’t train yesterday, he trained today, so naturally you have to assess these things game by game.
It isnt about what he deserves, or what we’d like to see. Its about what his capacity is. He put in a good shift against Palace but he paid for it and that is a demonstration, if it was needed, that he is at best a part time answer for this period.
It’s staggering to think that after all that money we spent we are one injury away from a full blown crisis and it’s only November.

How do you know a players capacity without playing, if he comes in for a game does well, then surely a coach/manager should give him another opportunity if it arises or the team needs it. The same arises with Chiesa.
With injuries we are struggling at RB, and although I think Szob is excellent there he is needed more for his midfield energy and thats another reason why I feel Ramsay should also be an option.
Ramsay wasnt even mentioned by Slot today. Said we have 5 available defenders (virgil, ibou, gomez, robbo and kerkez) and then other names dropped as defensive options were Gravenberch, Jones and Dom.
