Matip has been good all season, Klopp obviously ready to give Konate a go, so must look good in training.

Changes could be tactical -
Konate for added pace against Rashford.
Jota to make more runs inside than Mane would. Going up against Wan-Bissaka, Mane is more likely to try and beat him 1v1 whereas Jota is more likely to want to beat him off the ball. 1v1 is about the only thing WB can do.
Or it could just be simply resting players.
Fab missing is a blow but we still have enough in the midfield to be able to compete. It’s Fred and McTominay ffs.

I know, i dont often call for change of formation but may be worth it for a few games, 4231 enables us to play our 4 forwards or Ox. Not today obviously but for Preston and any smaller games

Looks like Milner will play RCM with Naby on the left side. Naby with Robbo and Jota should be defensively more sound than at Atletico. With Milner covering Trent I feel a lot more confident.
And with Mane and Jones on the bench we have firepower to spare should it be needed. Should be a great match for us.

Agreed. Not ideal but you are absolutely right, we still have enough in MF. We just played one of the best sides in the world and had the resolve to see it through.
All that said, my nerves are all over the place as if it was a cup final. It’s still only October.

I’m a bit concerned with the team selection. Throwing Konate into a game like this, I’m not sure about. Is there enough energy in midfield? Milner’s 3rd game in a week. Leaving Mane out, Utd will be pleased about that.

Thats why i said to use it in the smaller games. If we dont start resting some of our midfield soon we’ll have to go to it as we’ll end up with only 2 left

Konate not tested at this level yet. Huge call. Can only think it’s for his pace.

Matip was due a rest. With his fitness record his game time needs to be managed. I think Konate is picked ahead of Gomez because he’s better in the air. That’s a weakness for them defensively but a strength for them in attack. I hope that midfield is better on the pitch than it looks on paper.
I’m coming around to it now. We have Jones/Mane on the bench if we’re chasing the game, and we have Joel/Joe if we need to shut up shop.

Ahhhh Konate starting is a big big gamble.
Assuming that’s to deal with the pace of Rashford and Greenwood.
Fabs missing is a big loss and Mane seems to be coming into some form so I’m not sure I get the reason to drop him.
