For those worried how long Conor, Frimpong and Gomez will be out of the team, don’t worry, they will be right back.
I love Dom, it just sounds like the kind of thing you do on a game of FIFA or Football manager because well he’s pacey. I’m not sure I’ve ever thought of him as defensive. Though Trent never bothered with that at times last season so.
What’s the best alternative?
Someone who plays defensively as a right back.
Tsimkas perhaps? I just have never seen Dom as a defensive player. You tell me beyond him being a bit pacey why he sounds ideal as a right back as there is nothing I see in him that is right back. He is also most likely to play a risky pass which can pay off but I wouldn’t want him doing that 2/3rds back from where he does normally.
I don’t think he’s ideal, but I think he’d be the best of a bad bunch. If Tsimikas can do it that would be great, but whoever it is is going to be out of position and a gamble. Slot himself mentioned Dom as a possibility, so it’s not completely outrageous.
Kerkez
With Robbo at LB.
I’d have Robbo at LB anyway.
Leoni has played RB for Parma previously so could be an option.
Would it be wrong to submit a bid for Gordon on Monday morning so he doesn’t play either, not actually sign him, just unsettle the player - Newcastle fans already seem to think LFC are the devil incarnate so why not have some fun with it
Yeah as I’ve said before I would have thought another FB would be the obvious choice - I’d have picked Tsimi as he’s been here long enough and will be motivated and to keep Kerkez focused on LB alongside Robbo
Tsimikas never played RB and he’s not been involved lately, obviously on the way out of the club.
Makes absolutely zero sense to go for that option.
Makes more sense than an attacking midfield but hey I’m just a bellend on a footie forum who has more interest in German history than formations.
aka you are overqualified for this place
Assuming neither Bradley nor Gomez are ready then we’re out of ideal options and so on to who is left who can adapt and fill in over the short term, which is hopefully one game. Maybe even an hour of one game.
Endo is the obvious answer, but no one wants to see that after his 10 minutes cameo last week (an over reaction IMO). Leoni is another, but I would be shocked to see him thrown in to what is now a big game after a week. Outside of that we’re looking at playing one of our incredibly one footed LBs on the wrong side, or pulling someone back from midfield. Of those Jones has done it a bit with fluctuating levels of success, and at a time when we wanted our RB to come into midfield. Dom supposedly did it during preseason for bits of one or two games and physically is a better profile for matching the way we play now with Bradley and Frimpong.
Plus Arsenal probably? Can Bradley really be relied to start next weekend against title contenders?
Considering Arsenal, I’d like to save our midfielders for midfield and Tsimi surely can do a job at RB - its not like TAA days where he’d be expected to play very differently than he would on the left - and it surely is an option that reduces our other options the least ?
You see, when Limie says it, it sounds persuasive. When I say it, I sound like some kid with console.
You’ll see that I have zero interest in formations. You have your view and it won’t change mine. I don’t think an attacking midfielder is a good idea at full back.
It’s because we cant hear your authentic inner voice - its too multi-hemispheric.. Some sort of mangaled stray alien, yankie, uber alles, pommy frankenstein hybrid instead of a niice Bootle, Souf Affrikan or even (dare I risk it) iirish lilt…
LB’s at RB are pretty rare. I can recall Ferland Mendy and Guerreiro doing it a few times in the last few years, speaking of currently active players.
In cases like this, you mostly see a CB moving aside or a midfielder dropping back. So it’s nothing extraordinary if the likes of Jones or Szobo are picked to do a job there in emergency.
I’m really not Geordie Sure what it is the club have done wrong to upset the Newcastle fans so much but I expect a hostile reception nonetheless.
