I thought he did OK yesterday but I don’t think his fitness is up to the full 90 minutes at the moment.
Is Quansah refusing to play then?
Seems harsh when he and Gomez protected the defence for an hour with a man down, despite all the negativity from our own fans
I meant in general and not this performance. Peak / Fit Matip was a guy who was probably the best defender for Liverpool quite a lot of times.
He’s slowed down over the course of the last season which is undeniable. All things do come to an end though.
I don’t want to see a situation where Matip is defending the left sided CB position ever. And that’s the biggest problem.
We’ve had him out there before. Played there at times for PSV, don’t think it’s too wild.
With all the games/injuries that come this season I reckon we see him there for us a few times. Think he would be out most creative wide man, could work well with Darwin imo
He has been terrible every time he’s played out there for us. He has been terrible in the 3 games this season. Completed 5 passes yesterday.
Diaz is a far better footballer.
He has not been good 100%. I don’t know has Diaz been much better really. Good goal against Chelsea but was the first fella Jürgen was sacrificing went Virgil walked
He also scored a brilliant equaliser vs Bournemouth, and is generally a far more threatening player.
We should start with Diaz, Cody, and Salah. Jota and Nunez will come in as substitutes. Gomez for VVD.
Diaz on the left, no doubt. I’d have Gakpo on the bench (like I would’ve against Newcastle from the start) and then between Jota and Nunez up top. Nunez probably with the advantage to get the start now due to yestereday, even if I expect Villa to be pretty compact. Klopp will surely give it a thought, not go for a simple wild decision.
I think Gakpo is really good but I also think the same of Nunez and Jota. Its horses for courses.
Gakpo is quite similar to Firmino but therebwere plenty of games over the last 6 years or so that we’ve all said “we don’t need Firmino today” as he dropped into DM to play a 5 yard pass for no real reason. Our lack of a true “Plan B” was bemoaned.
With Gakpo having a poor start to the season ajd Nunez coming off the bench like a train then I think its either Nunez to start or Jota will come in with Nunez ready to come off the bench against tired legs again.
It’s important we don’t concede first against these because it’ll be a long, long afternoon if we do. The levels of shithousery from these at Anfield last season were right up there with Newcastle. JK must drum it into the lads not to commit any of the usual brainfarts early on.
We may well have to score 3 to win this one. Team more or less picks itself as far as midfield and defence goes. Diaz, who is massively under-rated on here, is first name on the team-sheet for me. I’d go with Nunez after yesterday’s heroics as he’ll be full of confidence and will still feel he has a point to prove.
Would be nice if Thiago and Bajcetic could get some minutes if things are going well.
There is also the EL I would hope the likes of Doak and Quansah get time there.
Hard to say who will start. The midfield three should be Endo, MacAllister and Szoboszlai.
Variables in defence with Van Dijk out and uncertainty over Konate.
Variables up front as we have a formidable collection of strikers. Will Nunez be better from the bench? Or has he done enough to force his way to a starting spot?
On their side they are a good team, and Emery is a very good manager. Watkins and Diaby will cause a lot of teams some problems this season. I like Diaby a lot, and in an alternate universe where Mo was leaving and Diaby was still in Germany, he would be a strong candidate for me.
If we play to our level we should have too much for them.
3-1 Liverpool.
Szobo opens his account, Diaz continues his fantastic early season form, and Nunez adds the third, but from the bench. He comes on, with righteous anger coursing through his veins at not starting, prompting fan arguments over the international break over who should start up front.
The window will be closed by then, and it will make a nice change of argument!
Konsa and Torres are in for one rough arse ripping of an afternoon, especially if they come to play a high line against our front 3. Diaz Nunez and Mo is perhaps the most dynamically explosive front 3 you can find right now.
If they thought Newcastle was bad oh boy oh boy.
Referee: Simon Hooper. Assistants: Adrian Holmes, Simon Long. Fourth official: Tony Harrington. VAR: Darren England. Assistant VAR: Timothy Wood.
Hooper the cunt that did not dare to give Rodi his second yellow after his ‘professional’ foul on Jota …
As levels go that’s borderline annoyance.
Just a question and I’m not being facetious in any way but do you have a excel spreadsheet with this stuff in?
It happened last season @mattyhurst
Yeah but it’s a yellow card not given on Rhodri. Aren’t they ten a penny per match let alone season.
