Even if he did it doesn’t matter. The consideration is not just whether the ball ricocheted off you but did you effectively regain possession. In his attempt to do that he was challenged by amplayer coming back from an offside position

I think a lot of it is the nonsense of modern football tbh.
Now teams look for runners in midfield and pundits and fans obsessed with pressing, rather than what you do when you have the ball. Then wondering why they can´t break teams down.
And midfielders nowadays often just recycle possession and defer to their CBs. I have mentioned Wharton a lot but yesterday he was the same, not having that burning desire to get on the ball and make things happen.
