It doesn’t help, lets be honest.
There has always been room for humour and banter, always room for personalities to develop…
But the in match threads are muck, and anything that influences the early mood in those threads is unwelcome.
In my opinion.
If you were a potential forum member browsing at the moment, would you join?
Look at what is on offer?
The in match negativity of supporters of a team leading on all fronts. Telling Slot to make substitutions after half an hour because Jones or Szoboszlai are playing shite.
The now totally unfunny “in jokes” that permeate every fucking thread. Added to the “hilarious” memes that are at best tangential to the discussion.
The constant craving for new signings whilst not understanding the impact of current squad players.
The banter and wit is on point a lot of the time.
But its tiresome and childish at times. The in match thread should be informative and constructive in critique. They rarely are.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot on whether fans have to patient against Ipswich Town: "It’s difficult for fans. My father is also a fan, he rings and says it wasn’t as exciting against Lille. I had to say to him you can risk losing if you try to do too much, it’s hard.
"I was happy with our performance against Lille, there was moment I remember where we lost the ball on the counter attack against Lille. That is the risk of what I call stupid balls, which we did against Forest. My father would love to see us do more of those.
“It’s more difficult against a low block. It’s a balance we have to find. Come to the stadium to see us winning and hopefully, we can score a lot of goals. With a high press, hopefully we can win the ball all over the pitch.”
Yeah, sorry about that. I was just scribbling notes as I was listening to it and trying to do a TLDR. TBH, there is usually very little of interest in the press conferences outside of injury news.
The only people who take such predictions seriously are always going to be throwing their toys out of the pram regardless.
I don’t disagree, but again, you’re trying to police the jokes of people who wouldn’t be the ones kneejerking anyway. The ones who would kneejerk do so without the joke predictions.
I’m not policing anything.
I am offering an opinion on the standard of posting in match threads, and the so called comedy in other threads.
Mods do the policing.
Very interesting regarding what Slot was saying in regards to patience especially in the Lille game.
Against Lille, I thought that we controlled possession in the 1st 20/30 minutes very well and on numerous occasions intelligently played through their press in our defensive and middle 3rd, creating overloads, to then make a hash of it in the final 3rd, with poor decision making.
It doesn’t look the most exciting football to many but that for me wasn’t because of the play in the back line, it was more the forwards playing poor passes or running with the ball and losing it, when we had the opportunity to create a good chance.
When we have this control we effectively tire the opposition out, which shows in the 2nd half of games.
I don’t why you assume that. I’m not into it but I was thinking of asking my sis to get the programme off her hubby and send it to me. In the end I decided I could be arsed.
As it is Burns Night today, I was wondering if he ever did an ode to footie. I couldn’t find anything specific, but I did find this snippet from ‘Epistle to Davie, a Brother Poet’ on a Rangers fan page:
The honest that’s free frae a’
Intended fraud or guile,
However fortune kick the ba’,
Has aye some cause to smile.
Of course, given the discourse around unrealistic expectations of the scoreline today, this stanza from “To a Mouse”, popularised by Steinbeck, is probably more suitable:
But, Mousie, thou art no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain;
The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men
Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
For promis’d joy!
