Isn’t Salah fasting during ramadan? It may have impacted his energy levels. He looked very much out of it last night.
Perhaps he should skip the soton game but knowing him he’d like to go after more goals/assists.
I’m sure that Arne and his team will know the personnel, formation and tactics to see us through this game. COYR YNWA
Everyone expects us to thrash them so we probably make hard work of it.
Or better still skip the fasting if it’s going to affect his performance in must-win games.
Hopefully the least bent ref in PGMOL.
AND… the next great religious war to engulf the world has started with a little spark on a football forum…
I remember that the 2012 Olympics fell during Ramadan. I was chatting to a Moroccan fan about players fasting and he said that it was permissible for religious players to skip fasting (presumably on medical grounds) and fast at another time of year.
I’m not sure whether that is generally accepted. The conversation started because I noticed that they were selling Halal pies at the event.
Yes, i think it is although not sure where sport sits on that acceptance scale.
They can also do other things like donate to their mosque or cook/ serve food for other people.
People are allowed to make up their fast on other days.
It’s not an issue.
Slot presser:
- Question about what makes Alisson great. He makes saves!
- Slot says we were very lucky against PSG - the harder you work, the more luck you get.
- To win competitions you need to get “lucky” once in a while. That’s what Real Madrid do.
- Southampton (oh yes them!) the first of three “finals” this week. Southampton most important game for now.
- Any rotation will be because players have not had time to recover rather than resting for PSG.
- Slot does not think ahead to games after next. He looks at which players will fit best together.
- Southampton has same formation as PSG so it is a good test.
- Liverpool using few players: advantages to keep a stable team. Players rotate in a group of around 14. Some (e.g. Elliott) don’t get the playing time they deserve. Pleased for Harvey against PSG.
- Mo was not frustrated when subbed against PSG.
- Southampton don’t play like a bottom on the table league.
- Slot in the stands: offers a different perspective, but they get that with iPads now. Feel the emotion more pitchside.
- Goalkeepers: Keepers benefit from competition, although Alisson doesn’t need it. Club in good place goalkeeper-wise.
- Goal against PSG helps mentally.
- Slot needs to convince everyone about 3 finals. Wants fans to appreciate that tomorrow as well.
- Gapko didn’t train yesterday - some pain. May train today.
- Need to act differently against Southampton in 2nd half as we did against Wolves.
- Asked about Liverpool getting lucky (over injuries etc). Slot pointed out that club tries to prevent them.
I’m calling Gary Player.
I think of the 10 matches remaining, this is the most important. I think getting to 70 points is a huge psychological marker, especially going 16 points above Arsenal.
My belief is that a point total in the low 80s will get us the title. Winning this match means we only need to win four of our last nine to get there. So I would field our strongest 11.
I agree and said as much before the PSG game. Of the 2 PSG games, this one and the final next week this is the most important of the lot. Of our last 10 games this one is the absolute banker in terms of 3 points.
In normal circumstances we win this every single time so I’m just hoping the lads are not too leggy after Wednesday.
To be fair 95% of the match was played in our half so it wasn’t exactly box to box for 90 minutes.
I think Tsimikas, Quansah, Jones and Nunez will all start and possibly 1 (or both) of Endo and Elliott. Hopefully Gakpo will be fit as well.
He will start Tsimkas and then it will be Endo or Quansah I don’t think he starts both together.
Would like to see Jones starting this one, thought he was really good in his cameo the other night. I’d rest one of Grav or Mac and put him in.
Massive game.
On a Liverpool supporters forum we have less than 40 posts on a match that can put us massively ahead of Arsenal. In the quest for Title No 20.
We have hundreds of posts on the political situation in the US in the same time. All very important…
But this is primarily a football forum?
Anyway.
No major changes. Tsimikas is an obvious one.
Maybe Darwin starts with Salah and Diaz. Even if Gakpo is fit I am now doubting he will start.
Maybe Endo instead of Gravenberch…not sure though.
Win this, Arsenal might just give up the ghost and drop points on Sunday…
I am excited and nervous in equal measure. Watched Doubters to Believers and the fall away last season has me wrecked…a win tomorrow would be a salve for those niggling worries.
Come on.
I’ll be honest I hope they pummel United 7-0. Arsenal aren’t going to catch us from here.
