That´s something I said about Grav. People argued but in my view you do not want your DM charging up field, especially when your other midfielder wants to get up there.

Agreed a point is fair.
Really need the midfield sorting in how to stop the transition and a lot is down to individual defending or even taking one for the team.
An issue from last season, the individuals do need more nous and game management.
On Wirtz, he is supposed to be playing close to Isak, and is in constant motion, but we can’t get the ball to him, so he drops deeper to get involved and you lose any effectiveness.

Grav had a very odd game, he did a lot of nice things but his 2 decision making at the top end of the pitch…we ended up conceding 2 goals from, which is what the masses will remember first.

Great clutch goal by Szoboszlai to get a result for us.
Newcastle fans will feel they let this win slip away.
I do think with 60% possession we did deserve something from this, I’m just disappointed we didn’t do more considering we had the ball so much.
Early days. At least we don’t have to hear a whole week from Newcastle fans crowing about how they beat us.
But hopefully next week is even better and Liverpool secures their first WIN of the season.
Feels like Barcola and Mbaye are very much needed to add more BITE to our attack.

I think he is an 8 though. His only real abilities are turning and running up with the ball. He has no DM instincts. People said it was to do with instructions but it´s just him.
It just worked better when he had Mac AND Szobo with him. Between the three they could be reasonably solid ish
Don’t think they did much wrong…
The issues remain the same: no pace on the wings, too open in the middle.

A true banana skin game to start the season. Think I have not been happier with a point since Lallana’s late leveler (alliteration) at Old Trafford in 2019. Still, we were pretty dire, and lucky to salvage a draw.

Rio on the left carries the ball better than on the right and Munoz looks very tricky. Early days yet, plenty of good signs to go with the bad

It isn’t just the pace on the wings it is the movement, Rio just wants it to feet, never looks for the run onto the inside pass, it’s as though he just wants to do a flashy dribble, he is better coming on late on and on the left.

We showed a stronger mentality today coming towards the end of the game than at anytime last season. This has to be a positive.
The two substitutes showed the perfect attitude when the side was flagging by attacking Sandcastle at every opportunity…

Yep. You never expect a flow passing move with him. He doesn´t look for it. He just wants to do a fancy dribble.
Provided a big spark everytime he played. A literal child doing that is definitely noteworthy.

The same crap that they served up last season. They took so long to get the ball into the final third that Newcastle had eleven men behind the ball and we had to resort with tip tapping in minimal space. The two goals we conceded were a joke with their players able to run forty yards without a challenge. The new manager has a big job on his hands.
