PreMatch | Newcastle vs Liverpool | PL Matchday 1 | Sunday August 23rd 16:30h

Gakpo our best player today and we want rid of him???
Maybe we should hold off a bit

He was until the end as he just kept doing that wafty cross to the far post

Which signs?

Wharton will unlock Munoz by having Munoz on the run in spaces with his line-breaking long passes.

Newcastle set up to counter and we obliged. Twice.

Both times losing the ball in a sloppy way on edge of Newcastle’s area. And just like last season, opposition teams seem to to somehow get a perfect shot away for the goal.

Newcastle then sat back and we didn’t create many opportunities. Cody with a good goal to get back in the game, but then we allowed Newcastle to take at the lead again.

Pressure penalty taken with aplomb by Dom.

Last season we started with last minute wins for five games. Then we imploded. More work needed in training, but a draw away at Newcastle is a decent start.

We don’t play with a Makelele type player. And we don’t have to.

Problem is not with his bombing forward but the organization behind him and the intensity of the recovery and counterpress.

Even then, he was the best MF player out there

I mean, it might help but it´s not going to catapult is up the table.

Only player looking like he was capable of scoring

However, he was terribly poor when he ventures into the final third. He couldn’t slip a pass in, he lacks the courage to take a shot when faced with just the keeper and lacks the athleticism to shuttle up and down .

He was a failure as an 8 in Bayern and in Klopp’s team. It is only when he sat in front of the defence and allowed the others to do what they do. That is why he was amazing as an 6.

Not many teams will face that atmostphere at St James, so taking that into account a good point.

Bullshit from the commentators saying you’d expect Isak to take it, never in my thoughts, was always Szob or Macca.

You say Makelele, I say Fabinho. And we should.

What organisation behind him? Your defensive play is in their penalty area. There is only 1 other midfielder to cover if you´re playing with a 10, and ours is Szobo who doesnt.

Probably was the best. The others were awful.

Isak is nowhere near any crosses.
£130m for a player who cant sense/judge a cross

Yeah. I mean, I don´t think he´s very good. Looks good on the eye with how he glides around but not that effective.

He did do a nice run and move for our goal against Como and that is something he can do occasional, but in general his passing is too poor to run games or create. Without it he´s just an athlete with a nice turn.

But as a 6 it was when he had Mac and Szobo instead of just 1 partner and he had Trent to do the passing.

Same as last season. Run at our midfield and within 5 seconds your 1 on 1 with the keeper

Boom. Andoni nailed it in his postmatch interview. We were arriving on the edge of the box and not finishing. We were overplaying. Classic hangover from last season. We need to break out of this programming and embrace the forward momentum and directness.

Iraola also nailed it. He basically pulled up Grav and Dom without directly naming them

What did he say?
