We’re not going to win the league anyway. The last two games have clearly demonstrated the refs’ agenda.

I’ve been a Liverpool fan as long as you have and have earned the right to have an opinion. We have seen, in recent seasons, the team lose out on the big prizes by trying to chase everything. We don’t have unlimited resources like other clubs, and it’s prudent to marshall our resources tactically. That is a perfectly valid opinion and has nothing to do with entitlement.

All the more reason to play with the backup and 4 kids.
I’m still expecting Liverpool to win mind but we should be taking the more pragmatic route after this match. If the stars align and we get a championship or a weaker PL team in the semis , we can then pivot across and keep more focus on this.
As always , this cup is only taken seriously for me when we get to the finals.
Klopp thought the same too. He was happy enough to put a lower importance in this cup atleast earlier on.
It was only when he got to the stage where he could win did he start giving more importance. That happened in the last few seasons of his reign. The previous one and the quad chasing one.

I’m not sure that really is borne out by what’s happened. No doubt fatigue plays a part, but in the seasons where we have made that much progress towards winning everything, it’s not that throwing those competitions would have made that much of a difference. We won them in any case, and for those that we didn’t, we have Courtois and refereeing to thank.
Playing smaller teams or opponents who are likely to rotate heavily presents us with an opportunity to manage our players’ minutes.
That is not the same as not taking the tournament seriously.
And we don’t have the depth right now to chase after every tournament.
I’m not saying I’ll be happy if we lose this one. We really shouldnt be losing this match
Its just that the priorities on this tournament depend quite a bit on the run in to the finals.

If there’s a chance that we can win this one without compromising on PL/CL , then I’m all for this.
That’s the difference: I don’t prioritise. Any trophy is something to celebrate.
Anyway these are the 8 teams.
And there are some teams in there where this is possibly their only pathway to Europe.
I’m including the likes of United, Brentford , Spurs , Palace in that.
And then again Arsenal and Newcastle for whom this can be a realistic means to a trophy.
It highly depends on which team we draw. If say we meet Crystal Palace / United at Anfield. Sure. Let’s have a real go at it.

Cynicism here means taking a pessimistic/pragmatic route with respect to our chances of reaching the finals.

If in the bright side , we have the tougher teams getting knocked out and we get a safer route to the finals.
Then let’s go for it. This is pragmaticism.
We need some luck of the draw to get to the finals. If we get that , sure.

I loved last years final, it was an emotional high for the year.
