Some context on Jones and Elliott’s performances tonight.
Jones is a 3rd year U23 player (meaning he was 20 when the season started). Every other 3YU23 player has been out on loan with the exception of Elijah Dixon-Bonner and Tom Clayton. Other players in the same age group as Jones - Jaros, Neco Williams, Ben Woodburn, Paul Glatzel, Luis Longstaff, Rhys Williams and Liam Hughes.
Harvey Elliott is a 1st year U23 player (meaning he was 18 when the season started). Other players in his age group - Jakub Okrzynski, Tyler Morton, Conor Bradley, Billy Koumetio, Max Woltman, Marcelo Pitaluga, Dominic Corness, James Norris, Jarell Quansah, Layton Stewart, Oscar Kelly, Sean Wilson and Tom Hill.
Think they were both superb tonight, just dominated a Premier League midfield.

Good win just a poor last 5 or so minutes and we rested vital players down to Villa now. Some good preformances, our 2 central defenders, Milly, Jones, Elliot, Bobby and Mini for his goal

What I do find perplexing is his finishing, getting into great positions and misfiring when I always thought his finishing from the edge of the box was a strength?

Probably just to do with the space he gets. Premier League defences - even bad ones - close space at a much faster rate than youth teams do.
I struggle to think of any player who has come through youth football and been prolific in front of goal recently.
Great result but Saints rolled over. I fear for them next season…
