Why exhaust Macca? We saw how that worked out last season.
As good as Gravy has been , Mac has been the fulcrum that allowed Liverpool to operate this way.
I would definitely give him a rest.
Yep and I’d also give Chiesa some time.
Also the fact that people outside of the UK get to watch the league Cup matches legally never fails to amuse me.
I pay the equivalent of 30c USD for this match
At one point they had CL and PL as well as the League Cup, plus Six Nations and the Pro14 in rugby. They now have lost the weekly programming in both football and rugby, along with this bonus. It irked me enough that I cut my subscription when we did not make the CL. I will probably re-activate for the knockout rounds and the Six Nations.
I watched the West Ham match v. Chelsea last night, or at least most of the first half. West Ham were absolutely dire, made Jackson look like prime Thierry Henry. I was thinking if there weren’t so many poor teams they could be in trouble this year. I gather they were better in the second half, but not able to convert for even one goal.
I suspect they will be pretty fragile at Anfield, an early goal will have them trying to avoid a beating.
ESPN+ here stateside.
Yes.
I think they’ve got a problem with their tactics. Still have a decent first team but there’s something wrong with the defensive tactics that teams will exploit.
It was also 10€ per month at the time which seemed quite reasonable. I’ve got it on a package offer from Telekom, which is still expensive, but I did think I’d get the League and FA Cup matches as well. It’s 45€ pro monat if you get it on its own.
I am not sure it isn’t more fundamental than the tactics. Jackson’s first goal was just lackadaisical defensive play, he was allowed to break into a run without being tracked and got behind the defense. Bewilderingly bad ball-watching.
Think the two of the West ham players were looking at each other as to who was supposed to mark Jackson.
That reaction said a lot.
This is the match to ring in some changes…
GK:Kelleher
LB : Tsimikas
CB : Quansah
CB : VVD ( to be subbed for Gomez if things goes swimmingly well)
RB : Bradley
DM : Jones
DM: Endo
RW : Chiesa
AM : Nyoni
LW: Gakpo
ST : Jota
Go Reds
Jaros
Bradley Gomez Quansah Tsimikas
Endo Morton
Chiesa Jones Gakpo
Nunez
I can see West Ham rotate as well.
Plenty of squad players who are seeing little time. I’d also give Nunez some more game time.
Players I wouldn’t have near this are
VVD
Maca
Grav
Salah
As they’ve played almost every minute.
I think we are looking pretty good for this one but it looks like the November/December fixture list that will be our season defining period. It’s relentless with most of the top half teams to play. Building some sort of points and GD lead before then would be useful. Not easy in this league. There are at least 6 or 7 teams emerging as challengers for the top 4 positions. Get through that period without too many injuries and this could be a season to get excited about. I am not really that fussed as it’s Arne’s first year and he needs time to understand what he needs to build. I do though think that the Arsenal game will be the the biggest test for us. Arteta has them playing like an early Klopp high energy team. We will see if we can handle them better than last time.
In goal will be a fairly simple choice, based on Allison’s injury and how long the physio’s expect him to be out for. If he is back for either WOlves or Balogna, then keep Kelleher in goal. If he is looking to be any longer, then give Jaros the League Cup games and keep Kelleher for the League and Champions League.
The rest of the team, I would go strong, but with enough rotation that key players are getting a bit of rest and players that have not yet had much game time get a good run out.
I’d play chiesa on the left , Darwin on the right and Gakpo in the middle.
Mainly because I think Darwin shoots better with his weaker foot than his main foot.
That’s an oxymoron.
Gakpo is clearly better on the left and Chiesa is a good right winger.
Why mess about and play people out of position?
Chiesa primarily is a left winger. We’ve bought him to cover all the forward positions.
