We play Wolves again, but this time in the FA Cup. The match is also available FTV in the UK on BBC One (coverage starts 19:45 GMT). I am hoping that we don’t embarrass ourselves on national telly.
Officials: Referee: Farai Hallam Assistant Referees: Adrian Holmes & Mark Stevens Fourth Official: Anthony Backhouse VAR: James Bell Assistant VAR: Daniel Robathan
This is the same referee that we had for the 3rd Round tie, although this time he is aided by video assistance.
There are no replays so the match will be decided after extra time and penalties if required.
So, Friday night football? It’s all a bit Tranmere Rovers, isn’t it. Maybe we can have a half-time spliff and go to Stairways afterwards…
Come on, cheer up. It’s the FA cup, where we get to cheer on the plucky underdogs against a side who is bottom on the league.
Getting out of the FA Cup, but also losing twice to Wolves in a week could be a serious blow.
I’m expecting a few changes, but still a relatively serious side. It’s not like we have a lot of options anyway.
I could see Gomez, Frimpong, Robertson, Jones (and get him on the ball, I didn’t like our balance when Szobo went to be the deepest pivot in last night’s second half) and Ngumoha starting. I don’t think Mama will come in for Ali. Chiesa could be an option.
Ramsey for Frimpong at half time. Maybe Will Wright up front with Kieran Morrison in the 10, with Nyoni and Curtis behind him. Wellity Lucky as centre back.
If you look at it to be honest this game is more important, they are already effectively down as they won’t play us again and they won’t take that many points elsewhere. Though they did off Arsenal and maybe there lies the point.
After the piss poor performance last night you would think any major rotation that was planned will be forgotten about but given Slot has already thrown in one cup competition this season it wouldn’t be overly surprising if it happens again with what’s to come next week.
5/1 on a Wolves win again is pretty good value tbh.
If some thought before last night’s game that they are now playing all out attacking football and we’re gonna pick them apart, that’s far from what it was. Almost the opposite.
Against Chelsea at home they changed to 4 at the back and tried to play more open. It was too open and Edwards said he might have to alter again to get better balance, which they did.
These games are not non-important for Wolves, especially when they finally pick up results and the whole atmosphere is lifted.
Regardless if it’s Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool in the league, Liverpool in the cup, I don’t think we have to bother or hope that they won’t be up for it. Some of their players are also playing for their futures, be it at Wolves or to earn themselves a summer move.
Focus on us, we have to play with more quality, not wonder if they will be 80% or 100% up for it. Count that always at 100%.
