Premier League 2021/22 (Part 1)

I’ve actually been there recently-ish. Looks beautiful, can only imagine how cosy it might be…

It doesn’t look like heavy snow at all…

bilde

There is a light carpet of snow on the pitch with a drizzle snow fall. Far from perfect conditions, but it’s not as it’s that dangerous to play on. Kids and adults play on such surfaces all over the northern hemisphere. It affects passes, forcing teams to play more long balls, will take them 20-30 min of the game to get used to how the ball doesn’t roll etc. But many northern teams play in worse conditions than this. Then again, the English are not used to snow and it affects them a lot on the rare occasion it happens (see news from UK traffic when they have a light snow fall, shutting stuff that should never be shut, down).

However, perhaps canceling this game is the correct decisions if none of the players are used to snow. But it’s not heavy snowfall. Eh, it is probably the correct decision, it is just my Norwegian arrogance and knee jerk sneering of how life becomes all of impossible under light snowfall for the English, shining through really ! I am used to reading and watching so many hilarious news stories of devastated UK traffic during the winter :stuck_out_tongue:

I would have loved to stay there under such circumstances (unless there was something dramatic that I really, really, really had to show up for).

Nice ovation for Ranieri at the King Power. Leicester City quaking in their boots to face the club which dismantled Man United so handily last weekend. :grimacing:

For an event on the scale of a PL game, it isn’t just the pitch conditions you need to factor in. Turf Moor is not the biggest stadium, but it is still going to concentrate a lot of people there at a time when emergency access and public safety is already compromised.

Yeah, you are right. But emergency access (ambulances and etc.) really shouldn’t be compromised by snowfall and particularly light snowfall in urban areas (unless in very mountainous secluded areas that can’t easily be plowed and so on), in 2021. It is not as it comes as a surprise to meteorologists, but this happens every year in England and it is hard to understand or respect for a Norwegian really. They are never ever prepared.

But point taken, you are probably right. It just seems so meaningless that emergency services are compromised by slippery roads (why are roads not treated during the early morning hours, why do they not use chains for heavy vehicles and etc.).

It’s not by your standards but when you factor in that 99% of Britons dont change the air in their tires from Summer air to Winter air then I suppose they’ve taken the decision to stop people travelling.

That said London to Burnley is got to be at least 5 hours travel most of those attending will be in the area already.

I know, I know. It’s just that my perception is coloured a lot by growing up thinking that the British are completely incompetent at winter weather. It is a cultural prejudice we Norwegians tends to have, and it is proven right again and again and most of us think it’s kind of silly that they never learn. No big deal, but I do find it peculiar that they are never prepared for cold weather, since it actually does tend to happen almost every year. Not as many days as us up here north, but they do get some days with this kind of weather and then there should be some learning going on from my perspective. But maybe I am much too harsh.

Pity. Was looking forward to another awkward Conte presser after a shock (maybe not so shock) Burnley victory.

?? What the heck is that? Never heard of that.

We are!!! Combine that with our in built colonial hero status we all think we can drive like Petter Solberg then it’s no wonder we end up in the hedges.

Seriously though, the days lost to snow in the UK never really exceed what you can count on one hand but boy those days are pretty special to watch the carnage.

One of those internet meme things cause we all know that everyone in Canada secretly does this.

Troost-Ekong ducks out of a header. Madisson right behind him to slot home. Shocking error, really. Still, Watford look a lot better under Ranieri, already threatening LC’s goal a couple of times.

Should be a penalty and its given

Bloody, fucking Hammers :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I guess it’s a problem that you don’t have enough winter days for the government to demand that you change to winter tires. In Norway, it is illegal to drive on summer tires this time of the year. And heavy vehicles are legally forced to chain up. We have a lot of issues with foreign semi-trailers skirting this law, and they end up in a ditch quite often.

But if you don’t have winter tires, you really must understand that you can’t drive above 50 km an hour even on a straight road. If you have to use the breaks, you’ll be a sledge if you drive faster than that, and depending on the type of surface, 50km an hour on summer tires may also be too fast.

Edit: On some surfaces, driving above 50km and hour is also too fast with winter tires, and those tires have far better grip. But driving on bottom frozen “steel ice”, which and this is even worse, has had a light rainfall on top, you need to seriously take your time and be extremely careful on the wheel.

Just some winter nerding

No doubt about it VAR is working much better. I can’t remember anything really contentious so far this season…
