Is that 14 players from the squad submitted to PL at the beginning of the season, or any (youth) players included?
I assume it’s 14 of the squad submitted, can’t see it including youth players, no clear guidance on it mind.
Has anyone read the well written article published to The Athletic at the weekend about all that surrounded the Watford/Burnley postponement?
I would post in its entirety but obvs can’t as behind paywall. If you subscribe, I recommend reading the article.
It’s quite troubling, on several levels, one of which speaks indirectly to the potential “gaming” of the system that a few of us discussed at the weekend: @Arminius @Nobluff @mattyhurst
I was left flabbergasted at how little regard is shown for fans. I’m being kind when I say this, the PL is extremely disorganized and clumsily run.
Can you give a summery?
As far as I can tell, under the new rules announced, none of the prior postponements would have been allowed.
Covid is going to decide the outcome of the PL this year, and not even in any way that rewards effective management of it. Draw a League club with a 40% vax rate in the Cup, play the next two matches shorthanded. Moronic.
Well, it’s clear then: no more covid tests from us, unless there are clear symptoms. Let all players play if they are fit.
Let’s make it the same way as Cheaty.
The very thing I was left with was how little rules, regulations, or policies in place. Make it up as you go. The league wasn’t even asking who was testing positive and who wasn’t. Quite literally it was a case by case basis of what would be canceled and what would not.
Burnley had no idea the match would be cancelled and it was being played at their ground. They found out literally 10 minutes before it was announced to the public.
Thats how I would read it too. You have your starting 11 plus three subs you can use. As Newcastle have shown, you don’t need extra for players with concussion anymore.
That’s exactly right. Knowing that now, coupled with reading what I posted above, I have zero doubt some clubs used this for their own professional advantage. And that’s the most disappointing part of this.
Wonder if that’s why UEFA asked Spurs to forfeit because they’ve been a bit economical with what they had available.
Anyhow as I said elsewhere I wouldn’t be bothered if we forfeited Wednesday’s match or played a youth side, sadly we can’t risk it, we need every last player available even if those three missing for Newcastle can come back for the Leeds game.
I’d be well up for forfeiting the game. The way Klopp was talking about the two legged semi, I think he would as well.
I am more perplexed that there are still 16% unvaccinated amongst the the PL players. Barring legit medical reasons for not doing so, these high profile organisations need to show an example, I still believe that the PL needs to mandate vaccination before the players can play unless they are medically proven to be unsuitable for it.
Any clarity on who the 14 players must consist of? I cannot imagine clubs would be required to make up that number with players outside of the 25 senior list otherwise no club would ever fail to get the required number. I just havent seen it stated explicitly though.
And then, what if we only have 13 senior list players, but have Jones, Elliot and Morton available?
Don’t think Morton was on our list. Made this up pretty much if my view
That is the issue right now because or else why was Chelsea’s request rejected and only managed to name 4 subs but yet others got approved, how and what does the PL consider as having “enough players”?
Not sure if I’m misunderstanding your post, but the issue Im raising is that if, as seems sensible, the 14 players would have to be from the senior A list, what happens if a club is under that but has kids (too young to be on that list) who they have previously shown faith in and used in real games and continued to be available.
Yeah I’m not sure how it works.
I know for a fact that we’ve had
Cancellations that didn’t need to happen, I can’t see any team cancelling if they can include U23s, I think the worst outbreaks were Leicester who were forced to play with one and Man Utd.
As things stand Tierney will be VAR for our game against Chelsea.
It had been expected that the Premier League’s gameweek 20, starting on 28 December, would be postponed in order to ease the pressure on Premier League squads.
BBC Sport understands one discussion point at the meeting was for each club to play two fixtures over the festive period across three gameweeks, meaning no individual gameweek would have been fully postponed.
Instead, clubs have been advised if they have 13 fit players, plus a goalkeeper, they should fulfil their games.
Like I said, they’ll wring every penny out of the Christmas period games before even thinking about having a break from playing.
You have got to be kidding…boycott the game, cut the power lines and communication to his little office in Stockley Park…lock him in and throw away the key…
