The abuse Southgate got last year for not using him more was one of the most confusing things Ive experienced in 40 years of being a football fan. A collective (if tactically naive) shout for a more attacking approach I could have understood. Certain players having their supporters pushing their preferred solution was always going to happen. the country seemed to so collectively decide that grealish had to be that man made me feel Id woken out of a 12 month long coma.
