Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

Hehe, yeah, it’s a pretty feistly game this. Everton really trying hard. It’s just that even when they try really hard, they have this tendency to collapse in the end. But fair play to them. It would be really nice if City dropped points on New Year’s Eve !

It would, im still finding it hard to support Everton for this game, think a draw would keep my hopes alive of Everton getting relegated and City not winning the league

I’d rather see Everton go down, this would 4-0 mind if we were ahead of Man City

Draw is ok, especially if Soton can win.

I would rather City not win the league, that is a hard priority for me, so I am rooting for Arsenal consequently. If that means Everton survives so we can play them in derby’s, that’s very fine as well. I like derby’s.

Rafa’s bargain basement deals helping out the bitters.

I can’t be the only one rooting for us, surely?

Haha, it’s a consequence of league placement and the fact we just can’t win, so yes, I would rather City not win and bring even more Premier League trophies into their trophy chamber. I don’t mind some happyness for some Arsenal fans, since they basically almost never win. But important for me, that City don’t win.

I count us 4 wins on the trot, even with all the whining about how abject we are.

I think people tend to over-romanticise 2019-20 and forget how dire we were for some matches and still won anyway.

It isn’t over until it’s over.

If the score stays the same we’re 8 points behind City with 22 games left. People still think they have a chance to win it so im not writing us off yet although i admit we need to improve quite a bit for the rest of this season.

It’s unlikely but I still think we can finish above City. Don’t think that’ll be enough for the league this time though.

Pretty safe to say he’s going to smash that record (probably next season if not this) provided Saints stay up of course.

It’s less than unlikely, it’s next to impossible.

We made up more ground than this last season, granted we didn’t have as many squad issues.

12 points with one more game played and we have yet to find the form we really need to challenge (honestly). The match yesterday was a win, but no more than that, since neutrals would probably say it should have been a draw. We didn’t play well.

I would bit my arm off to win the Premier league this season, but I don’t see it, at least not if I use my brain as well as my heart. So with that as a result, I don’t mind Arsenal. I want us to achieve Top 4, we still have to fight for that remember, and it would be a really nice bonus if City did not win the league.
But dear lord, if some how something truly miraculous happens, you would find me a very, very happy puppy ! But the point difference is truly vast so late in the season…

Fairly certain that’s what happened last season as well.

EDIT:

We had that point difference later last season.

To challenge you need consistency, and whilst the 4 wins in the PL on the spin is solid, we’ve been pretty much garbage in most of those games for a lot of those minutes.

19/20 we struck fear into sides, we were tight at the back and tenacious in midfield, 22/23 we are polar opposites.

Yes we are 8 points of City, but that’s a big 8 points

EDIT

Not writing us off in any way though, i think this season was always going to be a little bit transitional, so i’ll settle for top 4 and the CL

Not sure it is over romanticized, but romantic or not we found a way to win that year in 26 of our first 27 games. Some of those were fortunate, some of those were dominant, but we put the points on the board, and combined with an off year from City, established what proved to be an insurmountable lead (rather than coming from this far behind) and this year we do not have those points on the board. Of course, it’s never over until it’s over, but we are facing pretty long odds right now, and being realistic about that shouldn’t make one a naysayer any more than a realist.

Nunez starting to hit the target and Gakpo hitting the ground running could prove a big turnaround for us. I know our midfield is the biggest problem right now but i definitely think we’re not totally out of this yet (and i havent even started drinking yet)

I very much agree sadly, @RedSi73 . I still hope we will find top Liverpool form, since we need that to advance up the table. I do think we will absolutely get Top 4 and will be truly disappointed and saddened if we don’t, but I have zero belief in the Premier league championship having watched the vast majority of our games, as well as many games of City and Arsenal (who have been far better than us imo and deserve their league placements). But of course, if we some how do it, it would be absolutely amazing and I would be mad with happiness. But i don’t beleive it, let us be clear, I don’t.
I hope no one holds that against me.
And it is in that context, that I would rather see Arsenal win the league than City. I really don’t want City to win more titles.
